The iMac2 is goofy, but who is the goofiest:
APPLE: Jonathan Ive & Steve Jobs
MICROSOFT: Bill Gates & Steve Ballmer

With seeing a picture of the new imac, I'll keep with this same idea I've been having:
Apple will go wireless with its keyboard and mouse.
And I think there is a lot more to this macworld than this new imac and iphoto. My reason is everyone has been expecting these two products for a while now.

I'll say this one more time:
It's US, for sure.
a.) It's an exact reprint of the article in the US version of TIME. Go get it yourself.
b.) Other prices referred to in the article (such as the original launch price of the cube) are US.
So, sorry, it's US.

Ugly dumpling?
Are you people nuts?
It looks like what it is, a design triumph: very minimal footprint, no wasted space, elegance married to functionality.
Perhaps the front-on pic doesn't show it to its best advantage. Here's an alternative:

Well according to that Time Canada leak, the prices will be between $1,299 low end and $1,800 high end. If we are luckly and these are Canadian Dollar amounts since this was seen on a Canadian site, then the current conversion would be roughly .63 So that would mean the low end would be around 817.00 USD and high end around 1130.00 USD. While it is nice to dream, I am afraid that more likely than not, the amounts listed were USD not Canadian Dollars.

Why is the power button at the back??? I don't like all the connections at the back kind of going away from the accessibility of the original imac.
Still love it though

If I would be advertising the New iMac I would do it like this:
Click here to call home and speak with E.T.
This whole Macworld makes the Apple's Pro models look like overpriced toys...I hope that they will fix that soon. I am not a fan of the new iMac, I was expecting something cooler. Anyway...that might be only me.

It's going to take a little time for the NEW iMac to grow on me. I want to try it out and put it through it's paces before any major concludions. Ultimately they took the cube, rounded it and put a flat panel on there.
The pricing is the big kicker. And $1299 is pretty decent for everything that it comes with. But since they held off and waiting for the economy (to an extent) I would of thought that they could have introduced a sub- $1,000.00 iMac. And it would aslo be thought that production would of been ramped up ALOT more since there has been a lot of time on this. Maybe I'm just being to critical. But Apples roll-outs have been a pain in the a in the past.
The performance is going and the fact that there are now flat panel monitors with it are the keys to the iMac success. I hope it succeeds. I really hope that they push marketing and games with this to the consumer.
It's good to see a new iMac. Hopefully it will help energize the consumer side just like the iBook did. It's about time Steve! Thanks!

kovacs, i agree: it is ugly (way beyond the rumor sites!).
the foot is too big in comparison to the screen (a 17 inch will look much better!). i did like the cube better. the screen itself is far from the way they did the cinema display or its smaller brother.
nah, i wasn't very happy today. only good news: the 14 inch ibook. that's the digital hub i like to buy!

I agree the foot is odd, but I think it will mostly be hidden on the average desk...behind the monitor. I thought the blueberry G3 monitor was hideous, but when I got it, I rarely saw it from the sides or back, so it wasn't really as loud as it seemed in the photos.
...and having a monitor that can actually be adjusted heightwise is worth it. The pro displays don't offer much of a solution for unusually high or low desks.

Can't say I like the new iMac. I do wonder if the nivida and G$ are upgradeable (not sodered onto the motherboard). With this being as close to the specs of the tower as it is, I'm banking on a new PowerMac being introduced before the weeks out, along with the pro apps.

Dear Jebus, an imac that costs AUS$1000 more than the one it replaces, and comes with a 16mb geforce2MX video card. RIP. And can an ADC panel that Apple loves so much be used on this medical miracle?

Ahh yes, so I see. Praise jebus for that. Acutally this new iMac would appeal to my next door neighbour, she's got a g3 powerbook that's on it's last legs, and the only option previously was a hideously expensive g4 tower (she needed a bigger screen than 13.8" viewable lol). So this is in fact quite a saving on the tower. Of course, she only needs it for email, Word, Internet etc. But I have a sinking feeling that this is another of those small-niche products. Also the problem with the low end model only being available in March (at least in Aus).

Oh dear, SO-DIMMS for ram upgrades, and 64 bit DDR with geforce2MX. Unparalled experience in 3D alright. Slowness will be fantastic to experience.

You need some sort of converter connected to the FireWire port.
I use a DV camera - some of them allow you to plug in a VHS player, the signal of which gets digitized in the camera, which in turn connects with iMovie.
Instead of shooting through the lens, you 'shoot' the incoming analog video.

I know Jobs mentioned that it looked like a sun flower. How bout the Mac Flower.
Speaking of which, what is it about funky stuff and the iMac in the past year. We had Flower Power and now this.
*shakes head*
Is Steve still trippin from the 60's????

Huh? The Mac Flower Pot, maybe? I might be wrong, but I think in about a year, this thing will be [a small footnote in] history. This euphoria reminds me of the hype with the old iBooks, the Handbag-likes. The iBook became a success AFTER they removed all the sillyness and made it simple, cool and usable.
