Simple question. I find even when my friends do write stuff on their blog... rarely do I really want to read all of what they say. I generally read a small bit... but like... maybe my friends just don't write interesting blog stuff... I do though of course... no I don't I think my blog's probably the lamest thing since my Geocities page .

But anyway... discuss!

I dont blog. I dont read blogs. I must be old. Are the 'myspace' things considered blogs? I think that whole thing is so amazingly stupid that everyone participating should be murdered. Let the streets run red with the blood of aol stooges!

I'm getting into it pretty late. I'm finally enjoying it even knowing I don't think many if anyone is reading it. I guess I come from knowing people are reading to not caring. Now mine is like an online journal that I censor... which doesn't make much sense. That said it's nice to be able to tell friends, yah I wrote a new poem recently, posted it on my blog.
That said MySpace is like... kinda blogish but not exclusively. That said MySpace/PureVolume is awesome for local bands.

No, I talk to my friends instead. And I think, only one or two have a blog that gets updated regularly...

None of my friends have blogs, simply because if it's important enough, they can discuss it during the day in conversation. However, my Mac-using friend and I both tend to read technical (IT and science) blogs, and send each other URLs via IM.

No. I find most blogs are written by people who have no one in "real life" whose interested in listening to them, so they publish their thoughts online in the hope that they'll receive some interest in their otherwise boring meanderings.

Perhaps a bit harsh, but generally true!

I have a device called a "telephone" which allows me to talk crap to my friends whenever I feel the need to. Sometimes this device even allows them to leave instant feedback as to their approval of the crap I'm talking at them.

I also have a device called a "car" which allows me to transport myself to a friend's house should the need arise to talk crap and pull stupid faces at them. This also allows them to leave instant feedback as to their approval of the crap I'm talking and the funny faces I'm pulling at them.

The answer is technically yes, but really no. I read my friends blogs, but they're usually A.) very short pieces about something that happened 2.) completely infrequent (one a month at most)

Now I keep a blog too, but I very rarely write about myself. I mostly do humor pieces, and ones best served in text form at that.

I do, just so I can make fun of them and point out spelling and grammatical errors.

I was confused by the references you left. There seemed to be a link missing. I figured it out now I found this one

It's funny, most of my "real friends" have email, but basically could give a crap about the rest of the internet. They web surf when they need to shop for something at Amazon and sometimes use the iTMS, but they have lives and wouldn't set up a blog.

And whether this is the thread for this or not:

I hate myspace!! It's like Geocities 10 years ago with pages connected to each other. Seriously, I get sent a myspace link here and there, go to the page, then have to turn off images or go to source mode to read the content.

People - if it's your space, clean it up! You don't need a blinking star animated background and dark purple with cheesy animated graphics of unicorns all over it!!

I've seen one well designed myspace template, and myspace kicked the guy off because it violated TOS based on the fact he used CSS to disable some of the ads. (It was Keegan Jones' template that he wrote about on the Big Noob.)

FUnny, I was thinking that in the shower this morning.

Personally, it's the music I find most disruptive. Most people listen to music (or watch TV) while surfing the internet, so that'd be the worst feature to find on 90% of the &%$# pages.

I have one friend that I read her blog. It is a way to find out what's going on her life, thoughts.

My friends are just starting to get into blogging and myspace and I think the whole thing is ridiculously lame. It is kind of fun reading other people's blogs and live journals though... just to see how goofy they really are.

I don't understand the urge to post a journal online for everyone to read. It seems creepy. And I mean, seriously, who the hell really wants to read about people's boring lives? I have my own boring life thanks, I don't need to learn more about yours.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Most of my friends aren't heavily into tech/computers/internet. I seem to be the only "geek" among my group.

I have informed all my friends that blogs are bullshit. I think they understand that I won't read theirs.

I often find useful tech blogs in Google, fragments of information that prove to be useful, stuff on upcoming technology, commentary on tech-related news... this has all been useful on several occasions.

I sometimes read blogs of musicians I admire. They can be fun and insightful too.

Just because we have a new media format, it doesn't change the fact that content is king. if you have quality content, there is nothing inherently wrong with a blog.

I also don't find it surprising that blogs written by Joe Average about non-provocative subject matter (such as some of the stuff on MySpace) are dull and uninteresting.

I have a couple of friends that blog, and fortunately they have rss feeds, so I just keep them in NetNewsWire. I'll glance over them every so often, and read any posts that really interests me.

I only know one of my friends' blog URL, and I rarely read it because her posts are so long. I blog myself, but I keep my posts short and to the point so others can sit and read and be done within a minute or so.

Absolutely.

The number of blog writers is at least ten times greater than the number of blog readers I'm sure.

Only one of my friends has a blog. But that's because he's in hospital with leukaemia, and it's the best way to keep everyone he knows in touch with how the treatment's going etc.

Other than that sort of usage, blogs tend to be a form of media for the ego-maniac which no one else pays much attention to

I have a friend who sends out cc'ed blogified emails to people. I also had a girlfriend who did that. I find it puzzling that they actually expect people to respond to them, or I dunno maybe it's just me. Blah.

I don't own a car, but even if I did, I still would be unable to see a large number of my friends and family.

I own two phones, but long distance charges would probably drain all my cash.

I started a blog so I wouldn't have to write the same e-mail, letter, or make the same phone call 30 times to let my friends and family know what was happening with my life. Plus it let me share my photos and stores. Now its a good time killer at my job.

Though I will agree, a whole lot of blogs suck the big one and their writers should be kicked in the shins. I actually do read blogs of several friends, both in country and out of country. I know that quite a few of my friends who I don't see very often also read my blog. So, there you have it.

I mostly find blogs incredibly annoying. It's mostly just people muttering on and on about absolutely nothing.

Reminds me of a lot of people I know. Except they act this way in person.

Or a lot like talk radio, or talk TV. Or the interest in general (besides porn).
