Anyone here own a Tag for an extended amount of time? I've had mine for four years, and recently it died on me. This was a bit surprising as I was under the assumption that these things should last forever. In any case, I brought it to where I purchased it, and they said automatic watches actually do need more maintenance... And specifically with a Tag, its not unusual to have it overhauled every five years or so....... costing $350

Wanted to see if anyone heard or experienced the same thing with a Tag, or any other automatic watches.

I can't bring myself to pay too much for a watch, I'm kind of tough on them sometimes. I've had a cheap ($24) Timex for about 5 years now and it has kept perfect time, never reset. I like to think of it as disposable, but it keeps going.

Sorry about your problems, however. Hope you can get it fixed without too much trouble.

I stopped wearing a watch once I got a cell phone. I didn't much care for having something on my wrist.

What is an automatic watch? One that is powered by your movement?

Yup.

Also, considering how much Tags cost, four years is pretty sad. My old roommate had one that I really liked, until something happened and the face got discolored. Granted, Tags aren't up there with truly fine watches; but they're not exactly cheap either. To charge $350 to service it every so many years is robbery.

It's just probably dirty. I got my wife a Citizen automatic when she graduated from nursing school, and it eventually just stopped. The watch repair guy cleaned it, serviced it, and bam! Like new! We recently got her a Turneau automatic, and it's not likely to get dirty, at least not that quickly, because the darn thing's rated for something like 100m depth.

The guy had to send it to Tag to have it looked at... basically it does need work (i.e. a new winding spring and a few other parts). The main issue with Tags is that they are all hand made (at least that what the guy says). But I believe mine is good for 300meters.

I don't mind spending this money this time around, as I think I may have had issues to begin with; It has never lasted more than two days sitting on the table. And I'm told it should last at least 40 hours sitting still. But I can't see spending $350 every 4-5 years....

This kinda sucks... I've always liked Tags...

Now I'm no math wizard, but I'm pretty sure two days is just a bit more than 40 hours.

I've got an Oris automatic (I refuse to wear quartz watches) and yes, it does need a little tlc every five years or so. That's fine with me.

Timex here.

Had it for a while, including a year in Baghdad. Works great, although the Indiglo button stopped working about 4 months after I bought it. I also need to change the wrist band -- needs a fresh leather band. The rubber/vinyl ones get brittle and crack after a while; metal ones rip out my arm hair; and velcro ones just don't hold their grip after 6 months of constant on-off.

HA! Now I feel like a retard. For some reason, when the wife (who actually talked to the dude) mentioned 40 hours, I was thinking a week (as in a work week). DUH.

In anycase, after doing some research, it seems that automatic watches does require some care. i.e. on one site, it says that you should only wind it until you meet some resistance ... i probably go way overboard on that. And it also says that constant motion can damage the movement..... so one is supposed to avoid wearing if for Tennis/golf/baseball....

Well.. I've been playing golf with the watch on the whole time I've had it.

Guess this repair may be due because of owner abuse!!

I've had my seiko arctura kinetic for about 3 years and have not had any probs with it and it keeps the time exceptionally well.

I did have a armarni watch before this and not surprisingly it died after 2 years!!

Im surprised that your tag died after 4 years, i thought like u that they would work indefinitely.
