I was in the market for a new vehicle to replace my aging van i had.. the van was to the point where the side door was gone and was only going 35mph in drive.. Good old Chevy Astro Cargo Van..

Heres what I ended up with
1993 Chrysler Imperial 6CYL
Loaded with everything

What do you all think

It has 100,000 Miles on it.. Its been garage kept never seen snow and was owned by a 90 year old woman.

Hopefully you didn't pay too much for such an old car. Its not really my style but then I'm not the one driving it.

Personally I think there's such good deals for SUVs that those are hard to pass up. Take the honda Pilot. It has an excellent track record and gives you the flexibility that an suv gives you yet you save on gas mileage. You can make the same case for the Toyota but that's me.

What relevance does a 5~ year old Honda SUV model have to the purchase of 16 year old Chrysler sedan? They're completely different types of vehicles with sale values that are on opposite poles.

That said; As somebody who has a soft sport for dirt cheap American luxury sedans from the 90's; That Imperial looks like it maybe left the garage twice since it was built. Either that or you did one hell of a job cleaning it.

Either way;

Good mileage for that year. The interior looks really sharp. Imperials will last forever... my grandma had one that got stuck in a flood in Washington State. It had water up to the door molding, but started right up after two days submerged.

I've always had a soft spot for these things. I mean, ugly as all hell, technology from the 1960s, but still - whenever I see one I think I'd like to drive one. Madness. And this is a particularly well looked after model. Cool.

PS: I take it that the back roof is just fake and not actually removable, right?

Anything is removable, putting it back is the real question.

Yeah its fake. One of the more questionable moves the American auto industry made back in the 80s/90s. Fake convertible topped roofs. I was never a fan of them.

The K-Car: all grown up.

Sweet ride.

That roof style is called a Landau roof--after Martin Landau of Space: 1999.

You sure about that? A Landauer is a kind of coach. I suspect that the roof might well be named after this instead:

Yup it was like that when I got it.. Under the hood is immaculate too super super clean like showroom. It also has a sunroof. Get this.. I got it for 1400. This baby will go into storage as soon as the first snowflake hits the ground. Its so comfortable to drive. Just floats down the road. It has seats that remember your position, Remote Start, Remote Entry. Stock sound system sounds amazing. I just have an old iPod Mini with a cassette adapter in there works like a charm. Excellent mileage too Im getting about 25-35mpg with it. Averages 50 bucks at fill up from empty. Only thing that doesnt work is the AC and im recharging that in the next month or so. Leather sucks in hot weather. But shes my baby and will be treated as such.

I like it a lot. Just keep everything in check. Low miles can = lack of maintenance. So keep everything flowing.

You're correct. I tried to be funny and failed.

My wife inherited a new ride from a great aunt's estate:

1998 Mercury Grand Marquis with 42,000 miles (not this car, but this color).

V8, Body on Frame, and I can make airport runs for extra money. She picks it up on Monday.

Michigan Plate actually.. They finally made us get rid of the standard blue.. up until I got this car I still had the same license plate from when I was 16.. Michigan Charges an extra 5 dollars for this fancy plate. Michigan car hence why she will be garage kept in the winter.. Im not taking the risk of letting the salt see this and give it that michigan cancer.

And Kervit.. When I got it I did a transmission flush and changed the oil along with did a cooling system flush.. shes nice and fresh.

Nice Looking car scottib.. those are very comfortable. my grandmother had one

I love my '93 Buick Park Avenue. So comfortable to drive. 182k miles and not even so much as a burp in the 23k I've had it.

It doesn't have a front bumper assembly. But that's something only other people see. When I'm behind the wheel... it's smooth sailing.

Some would say a front bumper is an important thing. Maybe. But to me... not having a car payment to worry about and $30/mo insurance are what matter most.

I suppose the apple sticker and ipod mini are responsible for your sudden tunnelvision, because what I see around it is really an old, ugly piece of junk

it looks like a funeral wagon

He likes it. If he likes it, why would you take that away from him? Perhaps he can't afford a car much more expensive than this one, and honestly most people probably don't need a car more expensive then that one. There are a ton of (Americans) who complain about what they have and want better cars and houses and blah, but I applaude corey for loving what he has.

What are you, 14?

I know, l know it's the 'cool' thing to dog on any car that's american made.

For what he paid for it, the miles, and the overall reliability of those-era cars I'd say he's damn smart. It's obviously been garaged and probably hasn't been over 55MPH.

Good find don't let the haters talk trash. They probably drive their mom's SUV around.

There's a lot to be said for buying older luxury cars. When I lived in the UK I drove an old Jaguar. Bought it from my mechanic who looked after my 1964 Land Rover so it had been well looked after. The Jag was a great drive, total luxury for $4000.00.

My apologies about the shitty comment I made about your car. I still don't like it but I shouldn't have had to put it that harsh.
The seats are probably very comfy !

I used to have an 89 Chrysler New Yorker Mark Cross. It was my first car. Its surprising how much abuse it took. Who knew it would survive a trip through a ditch at 45 mph? Actually though, it was a very comfortable car, and having power windows, locks, an alarm, and voice alerts put me way ahead of the curve in terms of features my friends cars had.
