Four new e-All-in-One printers were announced by
HP today, adding a few new options for consumers and businesses looking to add a printer that can be used with a number of devices. HP has said that it is adding three low-cost options to the Envy line for in-home use, and an Officejet model for home offices to suit different customer needs. Desktop and mobile devices, including iOS, Android, ChromeOS, Windows 8, and the Kindle Fire HDX can all be utilized with the new e-All-in-One units.
"Families need affordable, do-it-all printers that fit easily into their busy lifestyles," said HP Senior Vice President of Inkjet and Printing Solutions Stephen Nigro. "Whether in the den, kitchen or home office, our new line of Envy and Officejet printers make a perfect fit -- offering flexible printing solutions, mobile connectivity and high-quality color printing for everyday or professional projects."
The Envy 7640 is the biggest offering of the new printers, bringing speeds of 14 pages per minute (ppm) for black and 9ppm color. It comes with a 125-page input tray, while the output tray has a capacity of 25 pages. It also has an automatic document feeder with a 25-page capacity, and automatic duplex printing. Since it is an all-in-one unit, it contains an 8.5 x 11.7-inch flatbed scanner that can complete a scan in 15 seconds. Scan resolution is 1200x1200dpi hardware or 1200dpi optical, with copy resolution offered at 300x300dpi for black and 600x600dpi for color.
Two smaller Envy units are being released as well with the 5640 and 5660. The Envy 5660 offers many of the same features, resolution, and printing speed as the 7640, but it lacks the automatic document feeder on the top of the unit. Both Wi-Fi and remote printing are possible with all of the Envy models, but unlike the Envy 7640 and the Officejet 5740, the Envy 5640 and 5660 lack Ethernet ports, according to
documentation from the HP website. Like the 7640, it also contains two feed trays, with the main tray for paper and the secondary tray for photo paper. The Envy 5640 prints a little slower than the 5660, hitting a max of 12ppm.
The business machine, the Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One, can print 12ppm in black or 8ppm in color. Scanning and copy resolution remains the same as the Envy line, with the same size flatbed. The Officejet has the 25-page automatic document feeder, but lacks the larger capacitive touchscreen the Envy 7640 has. It does, however, contain four USB 2.0 ports compared to the two offered on the Envy 7640. All of the new HP units can be used accessed through wireless, either through local Wi-Fi or remotely through a tablet or smartphone, as the units contain 802.11 b/g/n.
As with some of the other e-All-in-One models added in the past, all of the new printers qualify for HP's Instant Ink program. Instant Ink allows users to enroll in a monthly plan to have official HP ink cartridges sent out before they run out of ink. Rather than enrolling in a plan based on the cartridges, plans are based on pages printed.
The new HP printers will be available soon, starting September 1. The Envy 7640 will be the most expensive of the bunch, starting at $199. The Officejet 5740 and Envy 5660 are priced at $149, while the Envy 5640 is $129. All of the printers will be available worldwide with the exception of the Envy 5660, as it will only be available in the United States.
