I'm guessing this has something to do with all the Language Kit talk, but here goes. I'm using IE5, and suddenly, since installing 9.1, when I view any sites in French (that's my first language), accented letters appear as question marks (?). I've never run into this before, and I'm wondering if there is something I need to do.

Surely this isn't a language kit thing, right?

Thanks for any help! Oh, and to see this in action, hit http://www.lefigaro.fr. If you are running OS9.1, do you see question marks throughout the page like me?

I'm puzzled!

I think it is. I had to dump my language kit, and now all Japanese characters appear as symbols instead. I'm ordering the CD too, so in 6-8 weeks I can read Japanese pages again I guess. :-)

Throw away all Text Encodings not installed by Mac OS 9.1.

Mac OS 9.1 already took care of that step for me :-)

Hey everyone,

Thanks for all your posts. I don't mean to flog a dead horse, but it appears that in my System Folder, I have a folder called "Text Encodings" and in that all kinds of Text Encoding Converter Documents. In there, I've got all sorts of docs, and when I get info on them, they are all part of the 9.1 install.

That looks like all the text encoding stuff I've got....One thing worth noting (maybe) is that inside the above-mentioned folder, I don't have a French Text Encoding Converter Document.

Is that the problem? If not, any other ideas?

A million thanks!

I'm having an identical problem. I checked the French site you mentioned, and yep, it's doing the same thing! I've tried everything!
