So I need to wipe out an old machine and set it up as a Quicktime Streaming server and Webserver. It will be used mostly just to give my students a place to put their sample Dreamweaver sites (about 40 of them) and as a place to experiment with Quicktime Streaming Server. So I guess my choices are:
-Use the unused 10.2 Server license we have laying around (which would mostly likely involve installing the most up to date darwin server for QT).
-Use an unused Tiger workstation license and install Darwin.
-Buy Tiger Server.
I'm having a hard time validating the cash output for Tiger Server. Any opinions, or cool features I'd be missing out on with the cheaper options?
All advice appreciated.

You don't have to install Darwin on top of Tiger to make things work. If you are familiar with httpd.conf, you can easily do without getting a new server license.
However, if you want the nice GUI tools, I think you have no other choice but to get Tiger Server.

I should have clarified, I meant Darwin Streaming Server.
As a side note though, is there a GUI for webDAV setup in Tiger? How hard is it to set up webDAV in the workstation version? I see lots of guides for older versions, but nothing for Tiger.

Tiger still uses Apache--just a newer version. It really shouldn't be that much different. Technically, you could probably use Linux instructions to make it work on the Mac. It's just Apache.
I haven't played around with the open source version of the streaming server, but the GUI tools that come with Server are pretty sweet. I would recommend trying to get it up and running on Tiger. Depending on how satisfied you are with that, look into Tiger server.
Just remember that most of what you are paying for with OS X Server is the GUI. Almost all of the capabilities of server are included in client, as they are open source projects.
