File transfer problems from NAS to new Mac Pro

I've browsed and search the forums extensively and have not been able to find an answer to my problem. I hope you guys can help.
I just (happily) made the leap to Mac and jumped headfirst into the machine you see in my sig. Until now we've been using two PC laptops for processing power and have been storing all of our music and pictures on a Linkstation NAS drive. I can get my Mac to access the drive and copy the files it sees, but for some reason it refuses to "see" all the files. I thought this might have to do with some of the "forbidden characters" that I've read about (e.g. ", /, #, etc) but the file names in question do not violate this rule. My PC (thankfully) can still see these files on the NAS but I had planned on consolidating all my media files onto the MP. Can anybody help my Mac see all the files on the NAS so I can transfer them?

You could try OnyX (look on MacUpdate: Apple Macintosh Software & Game Downloads) to turn on the visibility of invisible files. This would show if the files are invisible due to a file naming issue. If they are still not visible you could try copying them to a USB drive from the PC and then copy from the USB drive to the Mac. The Mac can read FAT formats.

I discovered the problem was with my Buffalo Linkstation, which apparently uses an older version of AFP that doesn't trips up on file names longer than 30 character. After considering getting an external HD and formatting it as FAT32 so I could use my PC to move my files to it, I instead downloaded an FTP program ("Fecth") and used it to access my Linkstation via the IP address. VOILA! It could see and transfer all of my files directly. Sweet happy day.
I'm not sure if Buffalo has fixed this little problem in their newer drives, but if yours is a couple of years old, be aware of this issue (and the workaround).

If do connect to server smb:\\...... it should connect with Samba instead of AFP. I know not intuitive.

i had the same problem with a linkstation which is completely solved by connecting via smb as blaze writes above rather than appletalk .... and from buffalo tech support, it's a known issue with appletalk
