As a long time reader since the early days, I will miss MacNN. I remember reading, MacFixIt, MacRumors, Apple Insider, Mac-in-touch, The Mac Observer, and VersionTracker daily. I'm sure there is a few I've forgotten about.

It escapes me at the moment, something about a shark . . . Mac the Knife?

Old school signing off.

Here's a heartfelt Farewell from the Netherlands. I didn't see this coming.

So, what's left? Macintouch, MacSurfer (and a few good Dutch sites).

I try to understand why. Recently, one of my other favorite sites, The Unofficial Apple Weblog was absorbed by Engadget, and I have seen other Apple-related web sites disappear over the years.
Is this because of Apple being so big that it is covered by mean stream sites, so people don't need a specialized site anymore?
Is it because the community lost its coherence since Apple isn't an underdog anymore?
Or is it all about the internet being eaten by Big Companies, taking away opportunities for moms and pops to make money with a blog?

This is a sad day. I will keep MacNN in my Bookmarks.

Little bit of everything, I'm afraid.

Definitely missing you guys... still find myself visiting every day or so just out of habit, but there are only memories to be found here now.

Thanks for all you've done Mike, and best wishes. I'll absolutely keep listening to the podcast, so hopefully will find out how things go with future endeavors.

Been coming to this site for well over 15 years, I'm certainly sad to see it go. I'd love to hear *why* you are shutting it down. I wish everyone the best of luck.

Thanks to everyone at MacNN for making the site what it has been to many Mac users and owners... the best site for Mac news, opinions, support, and insight.

What will we do now for credible information? :/

I have so many messages on here that are part of my history. (Including the kind thread from years back about my mom passing, then recovering, then finally passing.) I can't believe how long this web-site has been part of my life.

I wish there were some way to keep it going. There will be a HUGE void in my daily browsing habits.

I never created an account here but visited this site frequently. I literally created this account just to comment about this website. This website was so amazing and so many times it would have info that no other websites would post. It's sad to see it go. It's like reality never sinks in or maybe it's just a glimmer of hope that this site will comeback because it's been over a month and I still check everyday thinking just maybe it will have a new story. So sad to see this website go it truly is. What made this website so amazing is not just the articles but the community itself. When you go to macrumors, Engadget, and worst of all BGR you can never read the comment section with the same people commenting just starting flame wars. To have intellectual comments here and great dialogue was amazing but to have this it must start at the top and that's what these writers did. When one door closes another will open and i hope these doors bring great opportunities and this is just a blessing in disguise.

Wow, I just went and looked at all of those (macrumors was the only one I followed), and with the exception of MacRumors, it's amazing how bad the sites are in terms of UX/look. They've got big images and stuff, but the layouts are horrible to actually browse and get the news from. Another I'd add to the mix (with similar reaction) is iMore. It's like they all went... oh, here's the new design trend for tech blogs... and slapped some theme on, without really thinking about it.

But, yea, that's *before* even getting to the article content or comment/community. I guess compared to media in general, that's just the trend these days. The death of journalism.

I've used this forum very little over the last 5+ years, because it's been so dead. But for what it's worth, of the probably hundred forums I've joined, I still have BY FAR the highest post count here.

It's been weeks but I still find myself checking MacNN everyday. Hard to give up a site when I've been reading it since the late 90s.

I really grew up in the forums... Must have been around for nearly 15 years, with ups and downs of course, but still... WTF is going on that the page is closing and everything.... Weird...
