My text messages recently started sending as icloud. For example [email protected]. How do I turn this off?

Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Look for your phone number, but also remove your icloud email address. If your number isn't there, turn off imessage and turn it back on.

No need to remove anything. Just change the "new conversations started from" setting.

That too. For me though on my 5s, for some reason imessage was on but with icloud not my number. I didn't realize it until I'd messaged a few people, and my number wasn't even listed (including 'send as sms' and related phone-type options). The only way to fix it was to turn imessage off and back on.

Thanks! This was very frustrating and I was surprised I could not find any responses on Google.
