Is now a bad time to buy one? should i wait? Its not about the prices dropping, its about a serious bump in the near future. Will i kick myself, like i did when i got a single 1.8 g5?

It's much harder to tell now. I'm guessing Apple is going to release on a more frequent rate since the move to Intel, but we will need to wait and see.

I don't think you will kick yourself, but I would probably hold off for a month.

Hold out until after WWDC if you can.

Terrible time.
Intel already has faster chips available (2.33Ghz), a new generation of chip is guaranteed to drop next month (Merom/Core 2 Duo), and the latest rumors are that it will drop a month early (July 23).

Yup, Jobs' Keynote presentation is on August 7th.

I would wait to see if he mentions anything about what they have in the pipeline.

I'm holding off buying as well, because a bump is certainly imminent.

I think it's generally a good rule not to update within a month (or even two) of a major Jobs keynote.

I think its always best to wait when WWDC is so close. Will apple update the MBP line, who knows but if you purchase it now and they do, you'll be kicking yourself for not waiting.

Its under a month away so to play it safe I'd recommend holding off.

Murphy's Law of Mac Purchases: Apple will come out with an update to any given product line approximately one week after you buy a machine in that line.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

I'm a big fan of this site. It's not an exact science... but a good rule of thumb...

So apparently you shouldn't buy anything right now except, perhaps, a MacBook, unless you really need a MacBook Pro.

Well, that was pretty much my plan anyway.

They are just making suggestions based upon pervious updates.

It has prevented a number of "Ugh... I just ordered a X, and a week later they came out with a X.1!!! I'm going Dell" type conversations.

I know. I just found it amusing that every single product except the MacBook said don't buy this now.

I noticed that too. But their reasoning seems legitimate...no new updates to any of them for quite some time, and with WWDC coming up, who knows.

Very true... I'm actually excited because I'm going to be looking for a tower around rev. B of the Mac Tower.
