Fight Club fans: Would You Sleep With Chloe Before She Died of Cancer?

If so, why?

If not, why?

The way I figure:

If you are a loving, caring, kind and concerned person you'd do it.

If you are an experience junkie, you'd do it.

If you are a horny guy, you'd do it.

For those who've never seen the film, Chloe is one of the members of a Cancer patient self-help group but she's terminal and in a very darkly funny scene she stands before the group and shares that she's no longer afraid of death but laments that she can't get anyone to screw her one more time before she goes.

She then starts soliciting partners, saying she's got lubricants and amyl nitrate and what have you, then the group moderator escorts her off the stage.

It really is a different kind of humor than we're used to from Hollywood, and that helps explain the movie's appeal. It is VERY funny but in a really dark way.

Anyway...

Would you do Chloe?

Why or why not?

I wouldn't want to get that close to her that I'd be her last carnal memory.

Maybe if I knew her better.

There are SOOO many great parts it's hard for me to point to just one.

I also like the scene where the guy tries to pick a fight with the priest.

I'll pass. The last thing I want is to find out halfway through that she had already died. No necrophiia for me, thank you very much.

I thought she had AIDs or HIV. I'd sleep with a girl that had cancer because its not infectuous. AIDs on the other hand is a STD, which is why she couldn't get anyone to **** her.

I read somewhere about a website dating service for people with HIV/AIDs in the US to get their final thrills without the guilt of infecting someone.

Maybe that's just one part of the film's greatness. The screenplay isn't specific. It could be ANY disease which results in someone wasting away in the final stages.

And your comment prompts another thought.

A few weeks ago I got the sense of some people today being devoid of a sense of self preservation when talking about the threat from terrorism. That led me to Google search for information on this syndrome. What it's about, why is it, who is afflicted and etc. Something I found was pretty interesting, though not exactly what I was thinking of.

There is a frighteningly large number of gay men who INTENTIONALLY practice unsafe sex with the express purpose of becoming infected with HIV.

And that theme echoed in my brain yesterday when I watched the film for the umpteenth time yesterday.

A theme throughout the whole movie is one about letting go of the normal fears we had/have and gaining a 'freedom' of sorts by being unafraid of the consequences of our actions. This is echoed time and again. By fighting we break free of the first and most elemental restrictions...don't hit each other. By breaking free of the prohibition against fighting the characters are able to become liberated to do...what?

To commit anarchy. To indulge all our boyhood fantasies in excess. To play "Army,' blow things up, roll around on the ground and pounding each other, to drink too much, to disrupt the order of things. And the ultimate personal affronts are poisoning people's minds by inserting porno flick frames into family films at the local theater, poisoning people's bodies by urinating in their food and threatening to castrate anyone who might stand in their way.

And if anyone is in doubt about the real message of Chuck Palahniuk (IMHO) he calls the people involved in Fight Club and/or Project Mayhem idiots or morons several times, even though he recognizes this syndrome as being part of his own being.

Not only have we unconsciously let go of the normal prohibitions to embrace anarchy and mayhem, we have taken our hands off the steering wheel and in a blinding thunderstorm we have our foot on the gas and are suicidally barreling toward an uncertain future without ANY reasonable safeguards.

HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Leukemia, TB?

To Tyler Durden I'd guess it's all the same.
