I'm unable to run XP with full graphics acceleration turned on, anyone running BootCamp on a 17" MBP Core Duo? I've tried BC 1.1.1, 1.1.2, and 1.2 all with clean installs and every trick I've read online but not luck. In the "Troubleshooting" tab of the display settings in XP I have to turn down the slider all the way to second from the bottom and then the system is stable. If not, the system will freeze randomly after anywhere from 5-30 seconds. Can anyone please help? I'd like to run Flight Simulator X and need the acceleration to do it.

thanks,

Mike

It may be helpful if you told us what Mac you're running into the problem on...

Yeah.... I don't know how I managed to miss that...

Anyway, this does not sound normal, particularly with such a high performance computer. Madman, have you considered reinstalling XP and then the latest drivers? Since none of the drivers seems to have helped you, there may be something about the XP installation that is making the video system unstable.

As I've already said, I've tried BootCamp 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2 **all with clean installs**. I've tried re-partitioning the drive to different sizes and then installing clean again, and even tried different copies of XP Home and Pro to see if that was it. My OS X side runs perfectly with no problems at all, also TechTool Pro hardware tests show the MacBook Pro itself to have no issues.

Bottom line is I'm looking for anyone who has a 17" MacBook Pro Core Duo, not a Core 2 Duo, that is running BootCamp. I can't seem to find anyone that is and I'm starting to wonder if Apple has "forgotten" about this machine when it comes to BootCamp.

thanks,

Mike

I have a Revision A 17" MBP (which I think is core duo ... I've just not used that term for so long that I've forgotten. I know it's not the core 2 duo). Anyway, I had a host of graphics problems when I tried to play games under bootcamp, so I documented my entire process of getting games to work properly -- and stably -- here.

Based on your description, I agree that you need to remove your windows partition and start over ... but only to be sure of what you have installed and how. I think one of the posts in the thread above has a step-by-step list of things to do to ensure the cleanest possible installation of drivers, but I could be wrong. (Ask me again in June when I get Leopard and have to go through it all again!) Anyway, that post is my best suggestion. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your help! Finally I have things working!!!!!! After months of trying everything and talking to everyone I could, you have the answer. I downloaded the ATITool b13 and set the clock to 310/278 and not a crash yet! Flight Sim X runs just great and I couldn't ask for more. Although, it does make me wonder why Apple hasn't addressed this in their updates for BootCamp?

I'm going to continue testing things but it looks like this has finally done the trick. Thanks again,

Mike

I've also now upgraded to Vista Home Premium and the system is working great, no problems at all. I'm only using Flight Sim X, Firefox, Office 2003 and Garmin MapSource but all is good. Beta 13 of ATITool is the trick, I haven't had one freeze or crash.

Thanks again,

Mike
