Oooooh, a new baby for the Cullen family! Seriously, do you have someone who follows you around and fixes your hair before you have pics taken?
Congratulations!

Ha...yeah, several people told me that almost immediately. I'm hoping there's no relation between that day and a maximum relevance of 5 minutes.

He's already got like 20 costumes, but I'm told by the wife that they're "everyday clothes." Could've fooled me.

Thank ya! Can't wait for you to join in the fun. I'm awake at 2:45 right now after 3+ hours of rocking him through the post-circumcision blues.
Seriously though, I'm loving this parenthood stuff, even when he's crying. I had no idea I'd get this close and overprotective so quickly.

Ha...they happened to catch me 20 minutes after a shower. 95% of the time, we've both looked like I've been through a blender.

I think I actually might have heard that somewhere in between the banshee sounds.

Gah! You *still* do that over there? There is no excuse for that mutilation if it's not a religious requirement. The 50s are long over.
Sorry, but I'm serious.

I was amazed too at how nature has this dormant program hard wired into us, waiting for our own offspring to trigger it.
Truly astounding and wonderful.

Sorry, but I'm serious.
I actually had this conversation several times with my wife. A family member confided in us his embarrassment at being "the only uncircumcised guy" that he knew, which swung our decision back towards circumcision.
He didn't cry during the procedure, but when they brought him back to us and he let out a different, painful cry every time we moved him slightly -- I started crying and told my wife I felt like a horrible father his second day on earth.
He'll probably thank us later, but it still killed me.

No kidding.
Frankly, I've been surprised by just how strong that instinct has been.
You take good care of the li'l guy.
Certainly will (hood decapitation notwithstanding).

I don't think there's any reason to antagonize him over this. It's a perfectly viable choice for his little guy's "little guy".

I'm not antagonizing him.
My apologies, jawbone, if it seemed that way: I realize you agonized over the decision.
I'm genuinely curious why you reached that decision.

Sorry, just had a long night and I'm just checking back into the 'NN.
My aforementioned close relative who was not circumcised mentioned that he was more prone to strong odors, was constantly pulling the skin back to prevent urine from seeping in and causing more odor, tried to hide it while in locker rooms, felt conspicuous, and generally felt like it required more "upkeep."
I asked him if he thought embarrassment was his biggest factor in recommending that we circumcise my son, but he strongly disagreed and maintained it was upkeep and hygiene. He just said, "It'll be easier for him."
Also, I'm staying away from the other thread. It's descended into insanity.

No kidding. Same here (exactly).
He started off 8.2 lbs, dropped to 7.2, and now is almost back up to 8. At the rate he's eating, he'll be a chunk in a few months.

When I look back at the baby pictures it feels crazy. I remember holding my son like a football, and now he's 3 feet tall. I'm sure it will be even more jarring when he's 6'3".
We're in the middle of potty training now. That's a whole new crazy adventure. I now fully understand what it means to be anal retentive. When he was in diapers he pooped 2-3 times a day. Now he's pooping once every other day... and when he does, they're like baseball sized rocks. I don't understand how that's even physically possible.

Oh... you say that now.
Just you wait.
(also, yeah, breast milk is built for being perfect for baby's needs, so there's very little left over after processing.)

My son was a total fudge factory. We also have 2 large cats.
At one point, when I was pulling our heavy ass trash can up to the curb, I realized that 4/5 of it was organic waste, diapers or cat litter.
Every week I was paying people to haul away a giant 50 pound bucket of crap.
Gross.

How do you know that he wasn't, in fact, a pooping football?

No need to start a new thread I guess, so I'll borrow Jawbone's.
It's a girl! At least the technician seems to be convinced that it is. I hope he's right, that's what I wanted. My wife wanted a boy, but oh well, hate that.

This is exactly how my husband feels... We both agree that girls seem a bit easier up front (as kids, potty training, behavior, etc.) but BIG trouble when they're older (dating, weddings, etc.)
Thursday is the big day for us! Will update once we're back home and settled in.

It's not even when they're older...the drama with girls (usually among other girls) starts in grade school and only gets worse.

Ours is going to start taking martial arts soon after she can walk. There's a local guy who teaches Muay Thai and Jun Fan JKD, and by the time she hits grade school she's going to understand respect, discipline, and defense.

Yes, sir! 10 fingers, 10 toes, good eater, good sleeper (so far, but it's only day 5) and super-cute! I'm recovering well, I had a c-section since she was bum-first. I've been weening myself from the pain meds, seems that getting up and walking as soon as I was able was the best thing for me. I'm really quite pleased with my recovery so far.

Great job, Mrs. Larry!
Wean those pain meds slowly, or you'll wind up regretting it. But getting up and moving is THE best way to push your recovery.
Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!

Agreed. The percocet made me so drowsy that I wanted to stop taking it ASAP, felt good enough to stop after 48 hours. I still have them in case I need them. Since then it's just been Motrin. And I'm not overdoing it, only taking the stairs once a day, relaxing when I can.

Sounds good. You'll have the energy to enjoy little Ella's first few weeks without being too sore. Besides, you've just finished a lengthy project, so you have earned a nice break. Besides, you no doubt have lots of folks coming to see the new kid on the block, so you need to be "fresh" to entertain, right?
Again, congratulations and great work!
