So I'm gonna be in LA the second half of next week of short notice. (points if you can guess why) I could use a few things to do beside hide in the AC. Extending the stay over the weekend is a possibility too.

Just keep in mind that I'm a stereotypical geek/nerd who's never been hip /trendy/etc.

Bring a hoodie for when it gets dark. You're in the desert, it gets cold at night

Not even close. It would be funny to put some money and flour in my suitcase. It's work related.

Sorry. Just watched True Romance again and as usual I was giddy at how awesome it was.

Hang out on Sunset at around midnight and watch marginally attractive teenage women projectile vomit from the top of limos. Or cruise at 4 am through Beverly Hills - the fog is primordial, you almost expect a T-rex to jump out from behind a palm.

If you need day time stuff to do, visit Frederick's of Hollywood Lingerie Museum on Hollywood blvd. They have AC. Or spend the afternoon in Santa Monica on the promenade, then head onto the pier. The Laemmle theatre is nearby so you can catch a flick if the sun gets to you. have fun.

There's a really great area called Los Feliz with some excellent and relaxed atmosphere restaurants, including our favorite mexican place in town called Mexico City. Beyond that, if you're into the outdoors there is some amazing hiking in Griffith Park, including the observatory. If you want to drive down to Long Beach (about 30 min. from Hollywood) there's the aquarium which is always fun, and of course the great beaches in Malibu.

Have a great trip!

I have nothing of value to contribute, but I hope you greatly enjoy your trip. Gotta love exploring big cities for the first time.

Just make sure you grab some chili burgers from Tommy's and a sandwich from Canter's.

Geek/Nerd?

Okay. Visit all of the Apple Stores in LA. There's like 5. Newest one being in the Americana, next to the oldest one in Glendale.

Go to universal studios. Maybe caught a movie on the IMAX screen.

Go to Griffith Observatory. California Science Center. Mann's Chinese Theater.

Go to the beaches like Venice, Santa Monica, or Malibu.

Tommy's is good as far as fast food goes, but if you can pay a few bucks more, there are places that serve some kickass burgers. I recommend Father's Office.

Canter's is definitely the spot if you want great deli, but the best burgers we've found, including chicken and veggie burgers along with traditional hamburgers, is called Stout in Hollywood. Really excellent food and a huge beer selection.
