I have a friend with an iMac G5 and he called me today with some problems. He says that it freezes either during startup, when OS X starts to load up, or immedietly after he gets to the desktop. Where should I start? Could it be that the RAM went bad or something?

I hate a similar problem with my Powerbook. It is either the RAM or the HDD. I am guessing the RAM. When my RAM and Logic Board fried i could start up to the desktop and use it for like 2 minutes until it froze up.
