hi
can anyone tell me how a gif such as the one on this page: http://www.paratype.com/ might have been made. (the spinning brackets)
I have gifbuilder but I'm wondering if there's a nice little simple 3d app which could do something like this without having to save individual frames.
Thanks in advance
Jim

Ack!!! Violation of HTML no-no law number 654.3!!! Animated GIF's suck if there is no UI use for them. Having animated rollovers for navigational purposes is cool but spinning for the fun of it is just soooooo early 90's!
But to answer your question, you'd probably just use any 3D program to make the elements...

StrataStudio has a free version downloadable that should suffice.

LOL, that bad chicken looks like it was made in the old skool "logo motion" I have NO clue who made that btw.... but just about any 3D program can make that effect, some programs specialize in that sorta thing like Swift3D.

Actually i've got access to lightwave 7 but I can't even find the texttool?!
I just want some 3d spinning type to make a couple of rollover links. Will swift3d be able to extrude? I thought it was like flash?
thanks for the replies
(and thanks for the viz link)

yep - swift3d will do it - but how can you save/export as a gif? I don't want to use a flash file (swf)
cheers

you can always go totally cheesy for an AIM icon, for example :c)
photoshop + gifbuilder + about 110 frames = a headache
(i had to get it under 7k to be a buddy icon, explaining the unique crappiness)
