It works very great. Fast browser that doesn't hang anywhere like safari. Good work omni. The save as web archive is nice.

OmniWeb has always been the browser to beat in terms of features. It's nice to see the speed comparable to other browsers once again.

It's kind of lame, but if PithHelmet was offered for it, I'd switch in a flash from Safari.

Is there a way to get it to shrink images to fit the window? That's a pretty typical feature that seems to be missing.

I've heard mention of "hidden prefs" with Omniweb - anyone know how to access them? Perhaps the feature is hidden in there?

It already does ad-blocking, if that's what you're after. Though perhaps not as sophisticated.

I see no problem.
Why have you turned off thumbnail tabs when there are only two tabs?
What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

The problem is that the tab drawer sucks up a lot of horizontal space, thereby making it necessary to utilize the horizontal scroll bar to view the website. It can be a pain to have to always scroll left and right when reading a forum such as Macnn or whatever. Imagine if OW had a preference to display the current graphical tabs in a drawer OR use "Safari-style" tabs. That feature would solidify OW's position as the "uber-browser" on the Mac platform.

yeah sorry should have said -- it requires scrolling in both directions on most websites with horizontal tabs. A huge problem.

With most macs these days coming with wide-screens, horizontal space would seem to be the more abundant to use for tabs...

IMHO they mostly did with their implementation of "tabs". It pretty much requires a widescreen, really.

The new beta is awesome. I have been using it during Sneeky Peaks and an update was definately needed from 5.1.

I'm very impressed with version 5.5 so far as well.
Its by far the most stable version of OW I've ever used, and on my Intel machine, its plenty fast.

I do notice that when I use "button 3" on my Mighty Mouse, a new tab will open but not be activated. If I ⌘-click a link, then it will open in a new, active tab. Anyone know how I can make a "button 3" click open an active tab? Safari will treat button 3 the same as a ⌘-click, but (seemingly) not OmniWeb.

I would personally set the dock to auto hide, this will gain you some space.

Very impressed with this release, but is anybody else having problems with "Save Window Size" not sticking between restarts of the app?

I'm using beta 2. Clicking the Mighty Mouse's scroll ball will open a new tab, but its a background tab. And swapping the ⌘-click and ⌘-shift-click options in the Preferences doesn't help.
Perhaps there's a hidden preference or a change to the plist file that can do it. Anyone from Omni care to comment??

Alright, I've been a long-time OmniWeb user, and I've got to make this plea for better ad blocking support. Call me stupid, but after several years I cannot figure out the regex ad blocking markups needed to block web advertisements and have relied on others to supply their own lists. If for some reason my preferences/.plists are lost then I'm back to square one.

Camino has a nice add-on called CamiTools which has an ad blocking feature that downloads from a remote site a lists of several, if not all, known ad servers so that the user clicks a button, the ad server lists is downloaded, and 95% of all web advertisements are blocked. The user then has the option of using this list on a site-to-site basis if they choose, or applying it to every site. They also have the ability to update the known ad server lists within this preference from time to time. I really wish the developers at Omni would consider implementing this sort of thing if possible, as the current built-in method is too time-consuming and difficult to be bothered with. Having the additional check-box options for blocking known ad sizes and those from third-party websites just aren't relevant any more as leaving them checked usually blocks images that you really didn't intend to filter.

5.5 is only $9.95 during November at the moment so it's worth a punt - I did and it's great and i haven't even scraped the surface yet!
