I'd recommend advertising it in the newspaper.
On eBay its too easy to find a better deal.
And stores will screw you.

I'd say after. I have a modded console (gotta love getting electronics in Asia) and will wait till lines form for 360 then offer up the modded XBox at a fair price. Before, everyone and their mum will be selling.

Why not just mod the bejeezus out of it, put Linux on it, and use it for playing MAME or StepMania? Over the past few years I've considered getting an XBox just for that purpose a couple of times.
Then again, you could try selling to the people who decide to do just that

Actually smartass both can be true. Either EVERYONE sells it before the release so there are tons for sale and your value decreases.
Or, you wait till that flood is over and when everyone is tied up with the 360 some people will look at the price tag and decide that they don't want to spend that much and get the old one.
