I use OmniPage SE from www.scansoft.com with no problems. It came with my Canon scanner.

I use Readiris Pro 9 and it seems to work quite well for me.
I understand there is a new and improved Readiris Pro 11 out, completely rewritten from the ground up if memory serves me correctly. I didn't upgrade because Pro 9 is working well for me.
I think Readiris and Omni are about your only 2 choices. Readiris has a demo version on there website so you could download and try it out. Don't know if Omni does that.

I use Vuescan as my scanning software with my Canon scanner and it has a built in OCR that's so so. It's a little rough but does understand most of the text.

OmniPage Pro X still working here on my Intel iMac / 10.4. I don't know if there is a newer version, but it's the best OSR software around.
