Sorry for the mundane domestic thread, but this is beginning to send me into fits. I just want to hang one or two utensils in different spots, but I can't find the appropriate hook to do so. Everything is S hooks for rails and rods or magnetic hooks for refrigerators. Anything single packaged or adhesive tends be very wide or plastic hooks that aren't suitable for fitting in utensil holes.

I basically want something like this:

That I can attach to the side of a cabinet.

Help me NN Lounge, you're my only hope...

I've found utensil holes suck for hanging due to the hook too wide issue you mention. Even if it fits, it's a tight fit, and removing it is awkward.

However, utensil holes are the perfect size for accommodating a little lanyard you make out of a segment of leather shoelace. Then it will hang on any size hook.

That's a good pick, but unfortunately I have something very similar which I tried, and the use of double-wide metal + swivel makes removing and putting on utensils tedious. Looking for a better solution.

Basically these: http://www.amazon.com/Command-Small-...dp/B007KYVLFM/

Edit: Lord have mercy, you link may have done it – found these: http://www.amazon.com/Command-Medium...dp/B001B1VWTA/

The Command ones are pretty good - I've used them for my utensils.

I was going to recommend Command as well. I use them for all sorts of things (kitchen towels, keys, etc.)

Alright, I admit that being a PITA... But once you master the technique of lifting a certain way, you'll be fine.

edit: you can always crazy glue the hinges into a locked position.

You can't put that hook through a utensil hole. Too wide.

Can you take a pic. Because a shoelace doesn't sound like something easy to slip a utensil on and off of.

I'll drum something up, but I didn't describe the idea well enough. The loop from the shoelace stays on the utensil. The idea is the loop acts as a larger hole you can get on and off of any width hook.

That's probably more loop than you need, but I happened to have this length available.

Oh.

(also a link)

There's literally hundreds of variations on that basic principle (google "3M hook"), for every possible taste.

Also, if you want something easily removable, these are apparently now available in the US as well:

tesa Powerstrips replace nails, screws and tacks, and save your walls from holes and cracks - tesa SE

They're great, but tend to NOT work well on roughed surfaces IME.

Lots of rather tasteful hook options there, as well.

Another possible solution is to hire/abduct someone to stand in the kitchen and hold your one utensil.

What kind of utensil? How would one even hang a (regular) spoon or fork up in the first place, since they have no hook holes?

That's one of the reasons I suggested a leather shoelace. It looks classy.

That's easy, just have a kid. The spoon may be covered in pet hair and drool when you get it back, but they will hold it for you.

It's because they'll let the dog lick the spoon, of course. I mean, why wouldn't you, (to the mind of a 3 y/o) what could be wrong with that?

Must the implements be hung by hook? You could try one of those magnetic kitchen strips. Assuming magnetic metal, the strip should hang anything but the weirdest implements. Your brass torture implements might still need hooks.

You could also loop a piece of shoelace through the hole.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

Are shoelaces dishwasher-safe? I'd think they can get kinda icky on kitchen utensils.

Leather shoelace will be your best bet in that regard.

Also, if you do it the way I have in the illustration, it's pretty easy to slip on and off.

Let me be honest; Your suggestion is functional, but that's it – it's far too utilitarian, at the cost of being hideous. Plus, extra work.

Honestly a nail is looking more and more likely.

Considering the research, and what appear to be multiple failed attempts to hang the ****er, I call bullshit on "extra work" at this point.

Likewise, if you imagine a nice leather lanyard is uglier than that plastic hook thing you tried, I can't help you.
