Hello,
does anyone use the built-in speech recognition funtion in Mac OS X?
I gave it a try yesterday and it works pretty well ... sometimes.
i found out that i have to repeat things often, especially names. Also, do you know how i can set new words to activate action? for example, i would like to say "sleep" and the computer, well, goes to sleep.
thanks
Jules

I've had it turned on for a couple of weeks now... kind of fun.. though sometimes a little annoying.
Sleep specifically isn't an easy one to do, because there's no key command that you can map to a speech command. I finally figured out a way to do it though... you have to write an applescript (it's only like 2 lines), then put the script in the speakable items folder and change the name to be whatever you want to say to activate it ("go to sleep" or whatever).

well, i found a way of doing it, but a bit complicated as well.
basically yo uhave to activate in the preferences speech you have to activate the menu option. then from there, you can access the "Apple Menu" and then you have the option to activate the sleep mode.
but i like your applescript thing, especially because i am at the moment trying to go more into apple script.
thanks for that

Yeah, I was doing that for a while, but I didn't want to have to say .."Apple Menu, Sleep" (cuz it would never take my "Apple Menu")

yes, but it is also sad that they haven't touched it in 15 years. You'd think by now it would be 100X better.
