It seems like most of the posts on this forum that talk about white spots are coming from people who bought the 1.25 15 Albook.

Did anyone buy a 1GHz 15 Albook with white spots on it?

Just wondering...

I think it's because most people have purchased 1.25 GHz models. I think there was a similar thread earlier, and both types were represented.

To awnser the topic question, no.

I have a rev-B 17 inch that has a 1/4 inch sized light spot near the center of the screen, about an inch below it. It is not very biright but is noticeable.

I think that if your carrying case is sometimes tight (Lots of stuff in it) , the spacers that keep the case top from flexing in can push too hard against the screen causing this defect to appear.

I have had the computer for about 5 weeks and the spot for two. It does not seem to be getting brighter or larger but it is still bothersome to know it is there.

I figure if it stays this way, I will not be in any rush to get it fixed as this is a new problem for the PB line and I should wait at least 6 months for a solid solution to arrise.

Maybe the 15 inch ones are much tighter and suffer this all the easier.

My 1Ghz Al has one very faint white spot on the left side of the screen. I can only see it if I'm looking at a white background, and am looking for it.

I have a 15" TiBook (one of the last sold, I'm afraid).

It too has the white spots. I noticed them right when I got it back in August - before the new PowerBook were released.

Although, I haven't heard from any other TiBook owners with this problem...

Anyway, I sent mine in to Apple... waiting for a status update.

Just so you know my friend picked up a ti book this summer, and yes he does have a number of white spots on the screen.

I also have one of the last TiBooks (not quite three months old) and I have the white spots and even some lines. It all looks like mounting or whatever behind the screen. Anyway, mines off to Apple tomorrow to, hopefully, be fixed.

Gotta, love the rep on the phone. He claimed he hadn't heard of any problem with spots on any of the laptops Apples sells, Yeah, right

southdi -- right, sorry. We got our TiBooks around the same time.

I keep checking online to see if there is a status change in my repair. No change.

but, my wife just called to say that the PowerBook has arrived safely at home (even though, according to the web site, it hasn't been shipped back.)

I fear this means that they did not fix it for some reason. I'll know when I get home.

I have spots on my Rev A 17" PowerBook. I'm going to send it in for repair this week. Hopefully it doesn't take to long to come back.

Apple replaced the LCD and the LCD bezel. I'm happy screen looks pretty good, so my fingers are crossed. Again, this is a 15" TiBook. Turnaround time for repair was great. PowerBook was away for less than 48 hours.

I have a 1Ghz Albook, bought Oct 11th. No spots or problems... so far. Other than the fact that it doesn run warcraft faster than a slideshow.

So

I just noticed the white spots on my 15" AL last night. Is Apple fixing this? Has anyone actually got their powerbook back from Apple and its fixed?

Can I apply to get my powerbook fixed or do I have to sit on hold? I hate calling becuase I only have a cell phone and it sucks away my minutes!

I sent my PowerBook in for repair. I sent it in Thursday and got it back Monday. They replaced the screen and connection cable, and the front bezel. Everything looks good.

Ha! I was at the Applestore in Galleria, Cambridgeside, Mass today and EVERY ONE of their display 15" AL PBs had white spots ... the cobbler needs new shoes.

Thanks Apple for fixing mine ... knock on wood ... so far, so good.

Just an update on this. I got my Ti back today and right back it goes tomorrow. They fixed the screen by replacing it with a new samsung and putting on a new bezel around the screen.

Unfortunantly I must have got a tech who was not on the ball. The bezel and the outside part of the screen with the Apple logo has gaps where they meet on teh edge that were not there before. To top it off The replacement bexel was eithehr put on wrong, the wrong part (doubt), or there was a tolerance variation in manufactoring. the top edge of the screen where the two meet, the new bezel ovelaps the outer one by about a 32nd of an inch. this is actually pretty noticeable and you can really feel it with the finger. If you look down at the pb with the tip closed along that edge you can see the edge that is supposed to meet with the other part and not be exposed.

I got bumped to a product specialist before they decided to take it back and repair it. The guy wanted to know if I would live with it but I told him for the $2000 I paid there was no way I would let it go. It wasn't like that when i bought it and none of the other ones I have ever seen have been that way. He said they will try to align it since there is a little play with the screw loosend. If that doesn't work they will replace it with a entire new screen bezel, screen, and outer shell in one part. I told if they went that far to dicument now that they are to check for the spots and make sure they are not there.

I still love the computer and I am not pissed at Apple just frustrated that the tech obviously wasn't on the ball.
