My ability to SEND mail via my mac account crapped out at 11:00 am today. Can anyone confirm if this is server related? I haven't changed any settings; I am online just fine; AND I can receive mail. What gives ? ? ?

Hey Guys,
Tonyrado, at least you can get mail. My mac.com account wont even connect to the servers. Whenever I try to connect, I get the message that my password wasn't accepted. I don't know whats up. I went to the the system pref. and reclicked then use iTools account for email under internet. And, I thought everything would be fine, but it didn't happpen. I am still battling with it. But other people have having the exact same problem as you, not sure if anyone is having the same one as me. But it's probably a server thing, but they need to work on it. 11.00 this morning was a while ago. it's 8.06 here now in Boston.

thanks

--if anyone gets a fix, can they please email me, oohhh forgot i have no email yet

Ok this sucks. I can't connect to the severs of mail.mac.com, and it kicks my mailbox to the offline section, when obvisouly I am online cuz I am writing this. I tried to log onto mail.mac.com 110 with telnet but no can do. I was going to contact Apple about it, but I can't get to their website. Apparently their whole website is down. I tried to ping apple.com but I got no reply. I just sent myself an email, just hoping that I won't lose any email.

Anybody have any other ideas?/

Hey all, It's 1:08 here EST, and no mac mail is working. I finally got apple.com to load but the itools page isnt loading at all. Being as it's new years day, isnt everything (including apple) closed ? Thus meaning unless someone important at apple notices, it could be down till tomorrow. Anyway, I sent myself an email from my @Home account, and it hasn't been returned yet so that is a good sign that we may not be losing any messages.

Quick update. 1:15 Connects to servers, but won't authenticate. Says my password is incorrect.

Someone has been working on it. When I tell mail.app to check for mail it gets to the part where its loging on as my username. So it atleast can contact the sever now, but its not registering my username. Something is happening, and lets hope that it gets fixed soon. I also tried to access my iDisk, and get the same responce, that my username was bad. This is an improvement from before. But i still haven't gotten my message back from my yahoo account and it hasn't sent it back yet, so...could this have been planned?

...Maybe they were switching to some new severs we will hear about on Jan. 7th?

_________
Just tried to log into the sever with telnet, and I got there, but it stalls on when I enter my password....Things are starting to look better!!

I never knew that one cuold log into the servers via telnet, but that's cool. I have been having the same proble as everyone else, 'talking to servers, but the password thing isn't working.' I tried pinging apple, but i couldn't get anything, but the page was up. That lead me to believe that they set up their page so that you can't ping, like microsoft, and the CIA, a lot of government sites do that, to have a less holes for hackers. but I did a port scan on apple, twice because of the no pinging thing, and this is what I got.
[localhost:~] rlovell% nmap -P0 mail.mac.com

Starting nmap V. 2.54BETA30 ( www.insecure.org/nmap/ )
Interesting ports on mail.mac.com (204.179.120.64):
(The 1546 ports scanned but not shown below are in state: filtered)
Port State Service
25/tcp open smtp
110/tcp open pop-3
143/tcp open imap2

Nmap run completed -- 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 730 seconds

this took a really long time, for four ports. I think that their servers are being overloaded with something, and having millions of people wanting to get their mail at the exact same time doesn't help.

This is not a good way for apple to go into the new year, macworld had better say: 'Better mac.com accounts, that don't authenticate passwords right.'

[email protected] -not working -going to get a lycos account

Here is an odd situation. I can now bring the iTools page up and log in just fine. However with one of my email accounts (i have 2) Outlook Express tells me my password is wrong, even though I can login just fine on the itools page. Any ideas, or is apple still fixing the mail servers ?

hey guys, it's not just a MAIL issue...

All of the Apple-served processed sites R belong to us.

They've all be wounded today... see loung debates on total revamping of bandwidth in prep for Jan 7... and other speculations.

All will be better (or worse) soon.

You must be kidding! Even small hosting operations have 24 hour monitoring to ensure they stay up as much as possible. If this was an accident, I'm sure someone at Apple was notified within seconds of it happening.

BTW: Mac.com email and iTools are both working again for me.

Most apple-served stuff seems back up by 4:30pm EST...

... for the moment.

But Apple store is a little wonky... a "work in progress" ?

Okay...I swear it was working, and I thought everything was good. But now I can't send nor recieve anything. It's 10.22, and I need to get some emails out. The only thing that I did different'y this time was that I made an alias to Mail.app for terminal. But I really don't think that could caouse me no mail privellages. I am getting sick of this.
