For my capstone project I have to use Second Life. I just bought a brand new MacBook and when using Second Life, it crashes my system and gives me kernel panics no matter how many times I try.

I tried using it in Windows Visa (Parallels) but it's too slow. Mac OS X ran it much faster before crashing. What can I do? Does Boot Camp or VMware Fusion work better? Should I try Windows XP? I really need Second Life!

Help!

XP will run a LOT faster in Parallels.

Don't use Parallels, use Boot Camp and run your Windows version of Second Life natively when actually booted in Windows. If the crashing still occurs then, perhaps there is something not right about your hardware.

On the MacBook below is the kernel panic which I don't understand. On XP, I don't know where to look. It just freezes the computer altogether. I guess I can try BootCamp later.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the MacBook's integrated graphics is sufficient for SecondLife. That's why I never tried it on mine. I have a first-generation MacBook, though, so YMMV.

I finally gave up on trying to put in on my MacBook. Boot Camp wouldn't work as well.

So, I installed it in a brand new Mac lab that opened up at school. 2 x 3 GHz dual-core Intel Xeon. It works but it's really really slow. I also tried it on my old PowerBook before I sold it and it works there too but really slow also.

I guess Second Life for Macs doesn't work.

Second life was snappy on my MBP...
I just didn't like it much.
I would assume that the macbook can't handle the graphics.

I have a 2.16Ghz macbook with 2GB and found the Mac OS X version a bit sluggish. I just installed WinXP using Boot Camp and pleasantly surprised it works pretty well! I looked at the system requirements and interestingly enough - there is supprot for the Intel 945 chipset on the Windows side but *not* on the Mac OS X side - go figure.

for the record, I just installed Parallels and Second Life pretty much froze on log in - I didn't wait it out after a few minutes - just didn't bother!

my 2 cents!

You shouldn't look for answers here. Second life has its own forums and one of the categories is specifically for mac issues. You'll get better answers there about whether your macbook can or can't run Second Life.

The graphics update after the 10.5.2 update seems to have fixed it! Second Life works on my MacBook now.
