That commercial was so boring, I had skip right through to the 2 second shot of the car, which was also boring looking.
Mercs still look better, particularly the 2005 m series of cars.

Didn't look like an official commercial, no? They misspelled "vorsprung" in one of the lead-in sentences by leaving out the second "r".

Where I come from, a "Merc" is a Mercury, and usually a 1949 model with a chopped top and flames, and a Mercedes is known as a "Benz".

What's a moron? Someone making fun of cars that consistently cost a lot less to buy and maintain than a similarly equipped foreign car?

Well, you are a rare parrot-teacher.
So I see that I was right, Mercury is a budget (crap) American car.

When the lease is up in 18 months on the car I drive now (Accord Coupe V6 6-speed), I plan on getting an Audi S4 next. Those look pretty nice.

A moron is someone who repeatedly leaves the Lounge with a huge Brou-ha-ha and farewell thread, only to return for a couple of insulting posts when he DAMN well should know better.
Especially when it only takes about five seconds to realize that the Mercury IS a foreign car to more than 95% of the world's population. The automobile is NOT an American invention.
</ot>
As for Mercs looking better, the only car that Daimler-Benz has put out in the past twenty years that I *really* like is the CLS.
That thing is absolutely stunning in real life. I stopped and gawked when I first saw one, months ago. (I'm not a car guy, so that only happens extremely rarely - like when a Citroën DS goes by, or the first time I saw the new Audi front section design.) The CLS are increaingly common now, of course, but I still really like the lines.
Finally, a classic Mercedes design.
Only took them what - thirty-five years?

analogika - that is a nice car, for sure, though i must say that it looks a bit, i dunno, squashed from behind.
i was thinking that the audi in the ad looked a hell of a lot like a bentley, but that may just be the lack of coffee talking. either way, noice.
and on a completely different note, is it just me is or safari rendering analogika's post extremely bungly (ie. with his text right through the third photo)?

I think it looks like it was squeezed out and then snipped off.
Have you seen one in real life? The pictures don't really do it justice.
I hadn't ever heard of the model before I actually saw one at a traffic light in the lane next to me. My first thought was that it looked like a concept car. Only the first one that I'd ever seen make it to the street.

Er, not exactly. While I'm not overly fond of American cars, I do own a Mercury Mountaineer, and for an SUV I love it. The line is owned by Ford, and so my Mountaineer is really just a Ford Explorer. You'd have to call Ford's engineering crap as well to make that statement. Traditionaly, Mercury's consumer base has been, shall we say, old farts that drive slow, sit low, and never forget their straw hats. Similar to Buick and Oldsmobile in that regard. (I live in Florida, so Grand Marquis and Le Sabres clog the streets like the cholesterol that clogs their drivers' arteries.)
However, as I'll soon be needing a smaller, more fuel efficient car, I'm thinking about a pre-owned Swedish or German car. Do you car buffs out there have any recommendations as to what I should look into?

That's actually not the C-class either (which is the low-end Mercedes Benz series), that's just the CLS.

nice jelly fish, though.
still, nothing can compare to the mighty rs4.
you've got to love a stationwagon that does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds.
