Hey,
I sent my machine in for repair to take advantage of the new logic board that is supposed to reduce the whine. I got it back today and from the second I hit the power button the fans are running at FULL BLAST. And they never ever ever stop. I hate to seem ungrateful but I'd rather have the whine back.
Is it possible that the engineer forgot to connect the thermal sensors so the fans are defaulting to always on?

I'm gonna call the repair center tommorrow to see what they think but I'd be interested if anyone else has suffered this.

regards

It is very posible that either the techie forgot or the wire got unplugged during the reassembling of the case.

If that really happened I find it downright shitty that the tech obviously didn't even bother to boot the machine after his work and do a quick test to see if he properly reassembled the box.

I'm sorry to hear your bad experience.

Actually, if the Intel Macs have one, you should try resetting the power management unit (or whatever its equivalent is) first. This would be the recommended procedure for any PowerPC machine exhibiting the same phenomenon.

Just read something interesting in the macbook pro service manual relating to changing logic board:
"2. Tape the thermal sensor cable to the display assembly to avoid forgetting it during assembly."

hrmm *strokes chin*

Did they apologize and offer a little something to make up for the hassle?

on the plus side however now that the fan noise is gone and I can have a listen, my whine is indeed gone.
So anyone with a whiney mbp take them up on their new logic board offer

Mine used to idle @ 65*C and hit 82-85*C before the fans kick in. Now w/ the replaced mlb, the machine idles at 55*C at most and hardly sees 80*C. It's very lap friendly now and the way it was meant to be.

I love it.

Yup its been excellent, its currently at 47 with a good few apps open, one of them being word which I found used to really send it cookin. Running rosetta stuff used to be akin to gas mark 6.

Perfect heat and no noise make for a very happy maccy.
