Announced today that TUAW and Joystiq will be closed. That's pretty sad. You'd think AOL would spin them off and let them be independent.

AOL bought the both of them I want to say in 2007 or so. I know some of the numbers behind the sites, and while they're in the red for AOL, I'd be tickled to see that kind of traffic. Also, I'm not sure that this is it for AOL axing.

A tweet I saw earlier asked AOL to donate the domain back to ex-TUAW people. Won't ever happen, but its a nice thought.

The people running TUAW and Joystiq are smart people, they'll come up with something.

I read TUAW regularly, so I'm sad to see it go, but it left a fair amount to be desired.

Most major news sources report on Apple often so I didn't need it for news and the articles were generally short and lacked analysis.

Good. I hope they can make salaries, and start hiring people back.

Thanks for sharing.

I guess I can delete the TUAW app now too.
