Date check.

edit: Hmmm... I could have sworn I joined well before that. I found this place shortly after buying one of the first iMac's in Aug. 1998. But I did lurk for a long time...

BTW: I now post under the nickname "Railroader".

Date check.

Although, I lurked here for almost a year before joining.

<edit>
I checked some old, old e-mails and I have been dcmacdaddy on the Internet since1995/6.
That's a freaking decade. That's longer than a lot of the posters on here have been alive.

Actually, I'll bet I have just about ALL of you beat. I was getting online in 1982 with my Commodore-64 using the VIC-Modem (300 baud) dialing into Compuserve. It was entirely text as you might guess, and painfully slow. I remember chatting with people and looking up useless information, it was a blast. Of course, my parents loved the phone bill

See the 1999 is the important bit, not the 1982, as the question was "who's been on forums.macnn.com the longest?"

Loads of us have been "online" since the early 80s (from a terminal attached to work's "mainframe" in my case), but that doesn't answer the question.

The people around for the longest probably don't need to bring attention to it...

and the highest quality members never bring attention to themselves, really...

I browsed from early 2000, then finally signed up around the time of the 'Newsfactor News Crusade'.

I posted initially under the name Marc2211, then Demonhood kindly changed my login name to TPC when I hit 1000 posts...

Sadly I *very* rarely post these days, but still browse daily

Doesn't seem like 5 years though

Peace out,

TPC

Well, when you've got 242 posts out of 2,721,957 posts (and counting) it's not hard that you can't see either. But rest assured, that 0.0000889% of posts on here which belong to Josh Reid are around somewhere.

FWIW (not much, I know), I was a daily MacNN reader long before signing up for the forums. I am not entirely sure what took me so long to get to the forums.

For those who might doubt the comments by some of those who say they registered in 2000 or so but had been lurking for awhile, at that time I believe it was possible to post replies without being a registered member. Creating new posts required registration and that's what forced me to register (many others too, I'm sure).
