Dear sirs,
I have a question about my Macintosh 7300/200. I install System OS 8.6 for two years, it works very stable. Due to the CD-RW must be connect, Discribe V5.0.18 work on OS 9.1 or above. So may OS 9.1 suitable for 7300 ? (or how about 8500/180 ?)
Thank you for your help.
Alan

I have 9.1 on my old 7600/200, and it works fine. I don't recall the architecture differences between a 7300 and a 7600, but at least our processor speeds are the same...

I just hopped over to Apple History , and it says that the 7300 replaced the 7200 and the 7600, and it looks like the main difference between a 7300 and a 7600 is that the 7300 doesn't have the video in/out circuitry that the 7600 has. It also says that the max system software on both the 7300 and 7600 is 9.1, so you should be OK.

The problem is you will have to buy a 9.0 OS CD (and pay up to $79 or more!) in order to get to 9.1. I looked into this. I couldn't use a 9.2.1 install CD that came with OS10.1, I couldn't go from 8.6 to 9.1, and I couldn't use a Sawtooth400 install CD to install it.
If you obtain 9.0 for a decent price, let me know. I might be interested in buying it myself.

Ah! I didn't think of that! I've been buying OS X since Public Beta days, so I have several flavors of 9 on install CDs that came as the "Classic" environment with those. So, in other words, you can probably pick up a copy of 9.1 by obtaining a copy of 10.0? Of course, that might not be any cheaper, but it's another avenue to consider. Also, a guy I used to work with was in the Developer Connection (or whatever they call it), and Apple would send him disks with all kinds of OS versions just for him to try out.
