Im about to go away for 5 weeks or so and only taking my MBP which is relatively new and is lacking a lot of the files my imac has, if i was to set up my time machine again (which i have been meaning to do) for my imac, if i then took that external away with me, would i be able to access its time machine to grab any files i need?

i know the simply way of doing this would just be to copy the files i might need onto the external, but please just answer the problem in the way i have proposed it.

Matt
