I'm looking for a freeware or low cost application that can convert my AVI files that use the Indeo Video 5 Codec to Quicktime MOV files.
I need to be able to use the files in iMovie so any help would be appreciated. I don't need to keep the sound on the movies, just the movies because there will be music in the background.
Thanks,
Sean

There is no way to play Indeo-encoded movies in OS X, except by using OS 9's QuickTime Player through Classic. Once you've opened the movie in the old QuickTime Player, if you have QuickTime Pro you can export the file to a MOV.

Yes, I know, but is there any way to convert them in OS X or OS 9?

No. You need to convert them in OS 9 or Windows.

There's also QuickTime 2.5, which is free and still works in OS 9 and supports all the pro features like exporting. The "pro" restriction is in the app, not the framework, and was introduced in QT3. Before then it was and still is free.

ftp://ftp.apple.com/developer/Develo...Kits/QuickTime
You'll only need the Movieplayer 2.5.1 app to do the conversion, not the full installation.
I usually use 3ivx for compressing; fast (depending on your machine, of course), gives decent quality without insane file-sizes, a bit more modern than the video compressors in the standard QT6 install.

Yay, thanks guys. Worked perfectly. This might serve well as a sticky for other people in the future.
