What's a safe GPU temp?

I recently got a 19" monitor to use with my 14" 1.33 iBook. I got it to screen span and am running it at 1600x1200. I installed temp monitor just to see what it looks like. Normal computing puts it anywhere from 115-125F. I put the iTunes visualizer on the big screen and enlarged the window to take up most of the screen. After playing about one song, the temp had shot up to 140F. I never saw what the temps were before putting the new monitor in, and I've heard these hacks can fry the GPU. What is a good idea for a max operating temp?

Experience the majesty of screen spanning! I think this was pre-better resolution though.

Okay, here's an update:
I unnplugged the second monitor and watched the temps while running the itunes visualizer not in full screen but sized to take up the whole resolution. After at least an hour or so, the temp got up to around 145F, so it appears that that temp is within the normal operating range. But with the second monitor, it got there a lot quicker. I'll just have to watch out for that.

I'd guess they're like CPUs, anything below 176F under load isn't worth worrying about.

I'm thinking about screen spanning my iBook with my Dell 20 incher.
Is this something safe to do? I don't have Applecare yet.

I've done it to an eMac and G5 iMac. Zero problems at all.
Some friends have done it to their iBooks, no problems there either..

When I first got my iBook 1ghz the cooling fan came on a lot more often with the screen spanning hack in use. However over the last year it has barely ever come on, so I'm thinking there was some kind of update in there somewhere that might have improved the video card's drivers?
I also bought an iCurve to keep the iBook off the table. It has helped as well, more air flow around the computer and it also elevates the iBook high enough so that it can comfortably be used on a desk with external keyboard and mouse (elevates it so the top of the iBook's 12" is in line with the top of my 17" CRT).
