Help me get this straight...

I rembember reading somewhere ages ago that all the jokes in the world can be categorized into 7 basic jokes implying all jokes are just variations over 7 themes...

And now, I can't find the article anywhere! Anybody out there that knows?
(You try searching google for the words "Seven" "7" and jokes, and see where it takes you ;D )

I thought there were 2, the funny and unfunny ones.

No, I think you have it confused with that there are only seven plots.

And since they all have been used up "movies" like Van Helsing, Troy, ... have to do without one!

I kind of thought this post was the funniest joke ever. I just hope it doesn't cause a thread derailment...

I think you are refering to the reducing of styles of humor form Freud. All jokes are in one of of these 7 forms...

Absurdity
Allusion
Analogy
Exaggeration
Faulty reasoning
Play on words
Reproach

I'm wondering if the zombie OP was thinking of the seven deadly words you can't say on TV. This list was compiled and made famous by the late comedian, George Carlin.

Sh
Pxxs
Fxxk
Cuxx
Cxxxsxxkxr
Mothxxfxxxxr and
Txts

To show you how things have changed over the years, some of these words (the "P" and the "T" words) you can now hear on TV almost anytime.
