So i migrated all my data from my 10.4 867ghz pb g4 to my new MPB. After I did that I noticed that my three finger navigation does not work any more. It worked out of the box.

Any help?

You can set up a new user account in the MBP to see if it's just a user pref in your account that's causing the trouble or if it's a 'global' problem. If it's the former you might be able to solve it by sifting through your pref files and finding the culprit.

That said, don't migrate from a PPC system to a MacIntel. It has just caused too may issues in the past. The time you waste fixing stuff is probably greater than the time saving.

Format the MBP and do the install again. Migrate manually (you can hook up the PB through FW TDM for faster transfers).

Thanks for the heads up. This is my first Intel Mac and I guess i just got excited about the data migration, even though I was leary of using it. I will probably reformat it tonight and start from scratch.

thanks for your help.

I had migration issues from my macbook pro to the air; the light sensor was not working till I created a new account and copied my files there.

So I logged on to the user that I set up out of the box and the swipe works fine. Any objections to me just copying info from the migrated user to the original user and then deleting the migrated one?

If you do that piece by piece you should be able to notice at which point things start going south. That should let you know what not to migrate.

For the record, MA is a great tool and most of the time migration works well and is a huge time saver. It's really convenient to have. But there are certain instances when you need to install apps manually after migration or you need to migrate entirely manually. Going from a PPC to an Intel Mac is such an occasion.

So there are issues on migrating a 5 year old laptop with an older operating system to the latest and greatest with a million new features? weird [sarcasm] Should I just migrate from my Win98 computer instead.

Translation: Thanks for all your help, I figured it wouldn't be seamless but would give it a try!
