Although I'll be spending most of the day moving into my new apartment, I hope you all have fun.

Ah, it's a good day to be in Canada. Though it sucks that Canada Day falls on a Thursday this year and I still have to work on Friday. Booerns!

Yup, but the only other viable option to Paul Martin was Steven Harper and I mean... seriously, like THAT would work!
Long live Canada! Supplies of most of the NHL hockey players, WAY better beer than most other countries, at least 0.00001% of the military forces in the world, great comedians and musicians, and, of course, Pamela Anderson (I wasn't sure which category to put her under)!
I AM Canadian!
incidently, anyone in Washington DC want to answer a travel question for me?

There's a bunch of us on this forum from the DC area but
I am around and have lived here almost 12 years. Ask away!

This day has nothing to do with Paul Martin.

DBursey,
Great link to that site, and I knew most of those facts (I come from a long standing Canadian military family). The truth is that our military, while something to be proud of historically, is now in complete disarray. Pound for pound I would put our soldiers up against soldiers from ANY nation in the world. Our snipers are renowned, our F18 pilots win many dog fighting competitions, our JTF2 guys are the ****. I work in emergency health care (civilian practice) and through my work I work with some military medics and they are great!
BUT, when we need to use commercial airlines to fly our people to the theater of operation, borrow planes from the US to get our gear there, and drop troops into a desert in dark green uniforms there is a problem. We use 40 year old Seaking helicopters which should have been discontinued ages ago, and our fighter planes have not kept up with our allies in terms of technology, which means it is difficult for them to work in concert with our allies on many missions.
I am a supremely proud Canadian. I have recieved much love in my travels around the world for being Canadian. Our government HAS neglected our military, however. As far as the dude who made the Paul Martin comment... well, whatever. he lives in a GREAT country, he should appreciate it!
dcmacdaddy:
Thanks. I am planning a trip to DC in the near future (I have ALWAYS wanted to go there, see the national park, the white house, the memorial, the vietnam war memorial, etc) and I have it all planned out except for two things:
1) I know the air and space museum runs a shuttle that goes from the national mall site to the Dulles airport site and back, but I was curious on the best route to get from the National Mall area to the Smithsonian Zoo and back?
2) Finally, I can't seem to find out if they still do white house tours or not... any ideas?
Thanks again! Enjoy your July 4th!

It's a gorgeous 26 degree day here! Biked up to my friends' place, had a nice barbeque lunch, and biked on back downtown. Time to open up a Gritstone and watch the fire works!

Our company has offices in Canada and the USA, so they gave everyone a 4 day weekend!
