"Real" idiots make comments like your's, I sold my iPod because I needed the ability to record audio, as well as listen to it, which is the reason most people buy MD's I think.
It's just nice to have feature parity with the PC world, as I believe you do, at least in the mental capacity stakes that is ; BTW are you a switcher?

I used to love my MD player, but then it broke and I got an iPod. Now I love my iPod.

I still have a cheap MD player, and if this was 2 years ago I would have jumped for joy at this news. But now, I just don't care. Good for those who still like MDs, though.

Well, I had a MD as well. And with XP it got real gay. So, I tried to get Service Support, and Sony ignored me. Anyways, to make a long story short, I got my money back. I "switched", saved up, and got an iPod. It's the greatest gift anyone could EVER recieve. But I know people with MD/macs. So, if you got support that would be really cool.

That's not too far away I don't think. The current iPod series could easily play mp4 (the PortalPlayer decoder chip used in the iPod can decode PCM, MP3, WMA, ACELP and AAC; and it can encode MP3 and WMA) and it's mp3 encoding capabilities would make an easy upgrade alternative. So add the new Hitachi 40GB 1.8" drive, uncripple the audio IC, and add a simple line in and that's what you'd have. Hopefully the next firmware upgrade will enable AAC decoding for the current crop of iPod owners.

You can't eat all those hamburgers, you hear me you ridiculous man?

I get a "survey already completed" message in the window...are you sure that's the right link Roders?

MD has a chance to comeback, b/c it's so portable, the medium is cheap, and you can record/delete/edit with great flexibility, but they need to

(1) make song transfer from Mac to MD faster, comparable to an iPod (don't think this will ever happen, but we can all wish, right?)
(2) get rid of whatever software is being used now, or improve it. I heard it's a POS.

The iPod stands a better chance at recording before the MD has a chance of gaining back the gap, so I'm not keeping my fingers crossed quite yet.

I have a Net MD recorder and the Windows software (Open MG Jukebox) is embarrassingly slow even on a FAST machine. Transferring files via USB link is relatively fast...once you're able to suffer through the 'import' and 'checkout' process, that is. Whether your playlist has 10 songs or 2,000 songs, the sluggishness of the application remains unaffected.

Otherwise, the Sony MD recorder is a first-class piece of engineering.

How do you think all those bootlegged live concert recordings got on Kazaa ?

well. there is some sony history in apple, but sony makes money selling computers that run the windows OS.

i dont think theyre gonna up and run to support a platform which makes them no money anytime soon.

then again, apple is doing pretty well making windows compatible iPods so what the **** do i know.
