I'd recommend actually getting help if you are willing to lose a part of your body for some software

Are you saying this because he's only offering part of testicles...because I'd offer my right testicle to complement that left one.

And maybe some per-user options such as: always accept file (from this user) and never accept file...the default would be asking the user though...and there should be a global setting that is applied to all users that haven't been touched by the per-user options.

My predicament being that I use Proteus while it has the features I want, but it's slow and tedious. By the time Adium has the features I'm after, it too will become slow due to too much polish in areas that people didn't have issues with beforehand.

<cue: "with open source people work on whatever they want you non-programmer serf">

(I only mean this light heartedly I stress, )

Well Proteus and Adium are both superb apps. They each have their differences and together, they cater to most people's needs.

It's sad that official clients suck so bad on Macs and that even the awesomeness of 3rd-party clients aren't pushing official IM client developers' to create something better. It's too bad but...they lose.

Nobody can say IM on Macs suck. With Proteus and Adium and iChat, most needs are covered. We just need good chat room support in Proteus and Adium and we're all set.

MSN users that play those Shockwave games can kiss my ass.

This is probably pushing it, but I'm guessing that this is all Cocoa magic? No WebKit anywhere?

I don't think Webkit could render each contact item in that list that fast and live. This is most definitely the result of some really good Obj-C coding.

It doesn't need to rerender the entire buddy list every time. Just like with the message views it can append, modify, and delete any node in the entire render tree. Without rerendering the page, I'd say JavaScript is plenty fast. And Tiger is even faster... it'd be cool to see it implemented for those those of us who want to have some fun though I actually created a JavaScript based buddy list a while ago that updated without being rerendered but due to my ineptness with JavaScript it broke recently. I'd like to see BlackBook give it a shot though

That's not even a Tiger theme. 'cept for the Tiger-ish Apple in the corner, it's nothing like Tiger...and the dev build of Tiger doesn't have that kind of Apple in the corner...only the build seen in the Apple.com screenshots.

Will it have a working block list? I just discovered that about the current version when annoying assholes who I had blocked a long time ago started IMing me.

That, along with some kind of graphical confirmation for file transfers, would be very very good. Otherwise I <3 Adium.

AhhHH... Meta's, that'll make me a switcher. Proteus has become to slow for me.

But how about group-chat, IRC, file-sending (With GUI?)?

Let me clear this up - the current devs have not gone to Apple, I was referring to an event several years ago

(Plus Fire is not crap, although I don't use it )

Group Chat is in.
IRC, when mentioned in the IRC chatroom, is supposedly just waiting on something, not sure what.
File Transfer GUI is and has been in for awhile, just no dev will take the time to get it all hooked up.

I strongly hope IRC won't be added. IRC and IM are not the same and shouldn't be merged together. Just because PC IM clients do it, it shouldn't mean Mac IM clients should.

IRC in Adium will never be as good as IRC in a dedicated IRC app so why bother? It would just be bloat.

If IRC gets added, why not e-mail and Skype?

Yea IRC is implemented a bit strangely in all IM apps. I, however, use IRC in Fire because I only occasionally go on the Macnn channel and I don't want to have to deal with a full blown IRC client to do that when Fire does it just fine. I don't need all the special commands and op controls.

I think they want to add IRC because that's where they (the developers) congregate to chat. But you have a good point: They have a lot of work to do is they want to include a worthwhile IRC implementation. And at that point, the focus of the app becomes kind of unclear. Why not make a separate IRC app to avoid bloating of Adium? I don't really know.

Personally, I really hope the elusive idle CPU time bug is fixed in 0.64. It's the bug where Adium suddenly, and inexplicably, starts taking up large amounts of CPU time while doing nothing in particular. The one that was claimed to be fixed in 0.51, even though many others have experienced it and mentioned it.
Genius. You know who.
