Anyone know of an application like Mail Watch, that is Universal, that will check your email in background so you don't have to have Mail open all the time?

I've used Mail Watch for years but it's not working very well with the latest version of Leopard, 10.5.4.

Thanks

If you are looking for something lightweight that will send you Growl notifications, how about Thunderbird?

I do realize that Mail is a major pig, and that leaving it open constantly if you have a lot of mail really taxes your CPU...

I think you need to open Activity Monitor to make that decision, not listen to besson.

Have you tried this? MenuMail - Allocinit

That's why I use gmail -- for their high-storage, very reliable and secure IMAP access. I have some ISP accounts that I just have gmail check.

I've found a widget that will check email for me. I'd like to use it as a stand alone application. I've heard you can make widgets into applications. How do I do that?

There is nothing wrong with keeping Mail open. Just close its window.
