I hear this word "metrosexual" a hell lot lately, and now know what it means.
What... is it becoming a cool thing now?

It has been the cool thing for about a year now (maybe a bit longer). It's gotten a lot bigger lately though. They even have make-up for guys now. They no longer have to borrow their girlfriend's

Looks like you don't know what it is!
edit: well, not only you but actually everybody who posted here so far!
(it is just a word for something that has been around for quite a long time - the word maybe new but not metrosexuality istself)

Well, yes, a lot of gay men have been doing this for a while. The term "metrosexual," however, refers to only straight men doing these "girly" things. And while some straight men may have been doing this for a while (mostly actors but some regular joes too), it didn't become a trend (as in something widely done and sometimes accepted) until some time in the '00s.

nah, i can remember guys starting to wear skirts (not kilts ), nail polish etc. in the early to mid 90s.
it's just another term coined by the media to "sell" an idea. it used to be called "cross gender", iirc, now it's "metrosexual"...

Ok, looks like you seem to define metrosexuality a bit different than me!
I don't think you need makeup, nailpolish or skirts to be metrosexual.
I don't do things like that, am 100% hetero and would call myself metrosexual since the early 90's. The word though is kind of new to me!

A metrosexual man is a man who cares a lot about his appearance. Make up, has a fashion hair cut, wear super cool clothes (like a gay), it's ultra sensitive,....but he is not gay. To sum up, it's a gay that is not gay.

exactly!
I wouldn't call it trendy or hip - it's more or less a kind of male emancipation!

I was called metrosexual because I try to keep my nails trimmed and for paying more then $20 to get my haircut.
I think there have always been guys out there that aren't gay, but like to keep up on fashion, have a very nice and clean apartment and aren't in to watching sports 24/7, lawnmowers, truck pulls, etc. etc. etc.

i think some of you are confusing metro-sexual with cross dressing. Metro-sexual is different because it is not as extremem as cross dressing. The metro-sexual men get expensive haircuts (most use gel too), wear expensive retro clothing, shave chest hair and maybe even more south of that.
Now I have nothing against gays, I have gay friends and they are just better people than us straight folk, they recycle. But I do hate how gay has become trendy. It's because of the trend that metrosexuals have sprung from. But on the other hand the gay trend has opened a lot more accpetance to the lifestyle, so that is good.
However, in my own stupid battle against the metrosexual trend I do almost the opposite of it. I have my girlfriend shave my head every so often, I get my clothes from either Target, second hand stores and the like. But then again I'm stupid. To each his/her own. Whatever humps your camel I suppose.

Right. Metrosexuality is guys buying skin conditioner, hiring an interior decorator, worrying about their toe nails, buying all their clothes at A&F, fussing with nose hair, spending 15+ minutes fixing their hair in the morning, color coordinating their clothes, matching their socks... that kinda stuff.

Where do you people get your information from? Makeup? Shaved chest hair?
The term metrosexual is a relatively recent term made up by people who want to sound cool but are really out of touch with current pop culture.
There are only two things it entails: vanity and high maintenance. That's it.
There is no necessity to wear retro clothing, dress gay , or use gel.
I think that before these people called it Metrosexual they classified those same individuals as pretty boys.

Keeping your nails trimmed?! Guess that makes every person who plays a musical instrument a metrosexual...
I always thought having long fingernails was a "girly" thing, not having short ones. But what do I know...

Metrosexuality is very 80s. I like that. Nevertheless I'm not impressed enough to take part in it.

The term heavily started to surface again since Queer Eye For the Straight Guy came on the air. However, the term itself has been around since the mid 1990s, as far as I know.
