No one has CLEARLY addressed this topic, so here it goes. Does anyone know of any good ones? Specifically, an email address that I can access with Microsoft Entourage or Outlook? I know hotmail.com, (yahoo.com no longer offers free POP Mail) but I get a LOT of junk mail from hotmail... anyone recommend a good free email service that lets you access it through Entourage/POP?

Also, does anyone know of any alternatives to iDisk? Like an online storage type of thing?

And finally, where's a good place where I can host my images? I'd go with tripod or geocities, but they put an image block on any images you have when you try and type the HTML anywhere else other than a geocities/tripod page.

Any help is appreciated. <img border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" title="" src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" />

You could always turn to trusty "Spymac" and get a Spymac E-mail account. Afterall, it has Webmail and Entourage access, forwarding, alot of space, etc....haha!

@mac.com

@spymac.com

Close enough! Who knows how long that site will be around though.

As for on-line storage, I'm not too sure about that one. I offer some on-line storage options using Novell's iFolder Storage, but that is really for PC's and not Mac's.

Or you can look around. Just about everyone offers free e-mail, the real question is how reliable is it. The more reliable, usually means it costs more.

if you have broadband, don't forget you can always do picture storage on your own computer - i do it and it works great. my parents have a cable modem and i run my mail server off of that - also works great (the school i am at got pissed at me for having a mail server)

There free service is rather nice if you like free IMAP access and Web access without POP. You can get a few more goodies with a basic membership for a one-time fee of $15, or you can get even more, including POP access, for $20/year.

I've been trying it out with the free account, and so far so good.

Does no one use the email that you get from your ISP? The only thing i use free email services for is registering for web sites or software so i don't get junk mail in my REAL account. I never even check my free email, they're just a red herring.

I can't remember the last ISP I had that didn't offer multiple email accounts and free web space.

Why are people so lost about this? Am I missing something? Are you all stealing bandwidth from somewhere?

Yeah, it's easy to go back to @worldnet.att.net, but damn that's ugly.

Heck, I found a place that will hsot your site up to 800MB with unlimited email accounts, blah, blah, blah, plus your own domain for the same $100 Apple wants.

<a href="http://www.highspeedweb.net/sp_hosting.shtml" target="_blank">http://www.highspeedweb.net/sp_hosting.shtml</a>

There is no guarantere that the price won't go up after two years, but neither is there from Apple.

It's a full web site and everything.

ISP email addresses stink because if you change ISP's you lose the address. That's how AOL keeps their millions of customers. That is why some people want to pay to keep @mac.com addresses.

My yahoo address has been the same for years now.

Never.

No spam either. I use my own email over the past few years, but occasionally use yahoo. Never had any problems.

Until I switched to iTools all the images I posted here were hosted at <a href="http://www.applelinks.com" target="_blank">www.applelinks.com</a> anyway (free).

I guess I'll switch back. I like those guys better anyway. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

.mac will just be the sign of a fabulous income for the wealthy amongst us.

Sorry, I didn't see this topic before I posted my own. Anyhow, here's what it said, and it might help some....

----------
I found a nice alternative to .mac, if what you want is email adresses and web space. This thing here gives you a domain name, one gigabyte of storage, unlimited number of email adresses (as long as the bandwidth usage doesn't go over the limit - 20GB/month), PHP, CGI...
<a href="http://www.funkyhost.com" target="_blank">www.funkyhost.com</a>

The thing you don't get, though, is the Finder integration. I heard somewhere, though, that OS 10.2 was getting something like ftpfs, using ftp storage kinda like an iDisk.

The price for the funkyhost is $99 per year. Same as .mac, next year.
[email protected] would be neat.

So, my question to all of you out there: anyone else got any alternatives?
Anyone knows if its possible to setup a webdav server somewhere and trick the OS to use that instead? (so you get the iCal and stuff)

Just my two cents. Or $99, actually.
Move .Sig... For Great Justice!

This seems pretty good.

MyRealBox.com
10 MB email storage.
POP3 and IMAP clients can be used as well. Will be cool to configure os x mail.app for this. I will do this shortly. There is a calendar feature as well in MRB that I havent used so far.

N.B: The lesson that I have learnt from the itools experience is to have an email forwarding address separate from a mailbox address. Just my .02$. So even if the mailbox goes "$" your forwaring address remains the same. Try Bigfoot.com for a free email forwarding service. Hope that helps!
The only negative point is that they use this service to test new versions of NetWare

Regarding SPAM, I did a test the other day and signed up for a Hotmail account and already after a day I had 20 SPAM messages. I have now had my account for two weeks and it has 447 SPAM messages!! The funny thing is that I have never used my hotmail address or given it to anyone.

Just wanted to say that I gurantee that I will never send spam on my service!! I hate SPAM!!!
