I haven't used Quarkxpress for some years now and I don't plan on getting it anytime soon. Up until a few years ago I used to use it frequently, and up until recently had neglected all those files, now without the application how can I see the files or perhaps extract the data from the files somehow ?

Do you have InDesign? If you do, it can open Quark files, albeit not perfectly. Another option is to download the QuarkXpress 30-day demo, open the files and then export them as eps files.
