it says for government employees, if I ordered would would they need to verify this? I don't work for the government nor do I know any who does. I once ordered Jaguar at the student price, and they didn't ask for any verification.

You sound like a real piece of work. Like the guy who finds my wallet on the ground and keeps it because you don't think anyone saw you pick it up.

Try working as classified employee for a public school in California. You get both Education and Government discounts.

15% for me! (now I just need money. )

This type of dishonesty is the kind of thing that spoils good programs and policies. At least try to be a little more discrete when you inquire about such things, macfantn.

OK, I'll play.

The student discount I will defend.

But why on God's Green Earth are we supposed to subsidize government employees?! Its not like they are an endangered species, it is not like they don't get free health care, pension, salary etc. etc. etc. And one thing for absolutely sure, they get our money by threat of force. We don't have any legal choice in supporting their careers, why should they have even more special treatment.

I guess now that I think about it, we are all, indirectly, working for The Man.

$699 is the price Apple should be charging for the MacBook to begin with.

I can agree somewhat, but remember that active forces and veterans fall into that category.

So I work for a public school. Do I count? And my girlfriend who I'm trying to get to switch works for Kansas State University. Does she count?

If you're a teacher, no. If you're a classified employee, yes. At least, that's how it works in California.

I just saved $500 on ordering a 24" iMac on the student store over the regular store.

Literally. Like 20 minutes ago.

How's it defrauding the government? Presumably this is not a government - run scheme.

Posing as a Government Employee is fraudulent.

Yep, I think what macfantn wants to do pretty much fits the definition.

As for defrauding both Apple and the federal government? See SirCastor's post above. And committing fraud to get a $100 discount deprives Apple of that $100, even after they've already marked these MacBooks down for being reburbs. The federal (and state too if Apple's terms apply) government is certainly an interested party, and macfantn's fraud certainly falls on it as well. Government employees stand to benefit from Apple's program and macfantn's proposed fraudulent purchase deprives at least one of them of that opportunity. Of course, the issue gets more complicated if Apple is required to do some accounting to the government (and macfantn's fraud on Apple is passed on to the government). Or, as a matter of policy, the unpoliceability of these programs may lead Apple to reevaluate them in the future.

Overall, not cool.

Looking at Apple's Government Store pages, in order to take advantage of the "deals," you have to affirm that you ARE qualified.
By submitting your order, you certify that you have read and understand the terms and conditions of the Federal Employee Purchase Program (“EPP”) policy and confirm that you are an employee of the U.S. Federal Government to which Apple has offered this benefit.
...snip...
Agreement
I agree that I am an employee of the U.S. Federal Government and accept the above terms and conditions.
Note that veterans (who have enrolled in Veterans' Advantage) CAN legitimately participate...
