If I get these things I am happy:

1) A wicked new interface for 10.5 and upgraded dock
2) new monitors that use LED's for backlighting. HDMI and have isights
3) The damn video iPod with widescreen and wireless (to connect to any WiFi net and the iTV which can be set up as media server).

What about new cinema displays with built in isight? I mean, the isight has been removed from the apple store for quite a while now...

Cingular perhaps?

From what the Wall Street Journal has just released that Cingular will be the provider for the anticipated Apple phone.

Cingular Wireless is expected to provide wireless service for a new Apple Computer Inc. cellphone, people familiar with the situation say.

The launch of the new phone and service is expected to be announced as early as Tuesday, these people say.

The new product could give Apple access to the huge wireless business, in which nearly a billion handsets are shipped every year, dwarfing the nearly 70 million iPods Apple has sold over the past five years.

9 PST, 17 GMT

Edit: why the hell did the forum software decide that I can't write PST and GMT in caps at first ?

if they do release an iPhone(which i doubt), it would be idiotic to have it tied to one network.

Lets not forget the rest of the world. Every other country/continent ive been to uses the "sim" card thingy..... all i have to say is they better support those networks as well if they expect to sell this hardware. if theyre going to limit themselves to a single service provider, ill guarantee the device will be a flop.

IMO we will see, a iChat-phone sort of device (think skype phone) with PDA (think newton reborn) functionality and OSX lite. that way it's guaranteed to work anywhere with a wifi connection.

You can't write a post in all caps, and if you look, every alphabetic character was caps, so the forum thought you were yelling.

It must be an interesting problem for Apple: Do we restrict it to a US network, therefore making a outdated dinosaur of a product by global standards, or do we release a cutting edge phone making the most of current mobile network technology, and therefore rule out a large chunk of US consumers?

When the iTMS came out it was US only. I think it took 2 or 3 years for it to hit canada.

Same goes with the Apple stores.

If it's a quad-band GSM phone, then even if their initial deal is with Cingular, nothing will stop you from buying the phone unlocked and using with whatever U.S. or other service you want.

Hopefully we'll be able to snag unlocked versions of the phone so we can use it on T-Mobile? *fingers crossed* If there's a goddamn phone at all, of course.

Well I can already tell what the majority of bitching is going to be about after the keynote is over.

Apparently, Apple and Cingular are working on technologies specific to the iPhone, so I doubt it will fully work with other providers even if it is unlockable.

Has a keynote ever been about so few products? Not complaining, just surprised.

Agreed & quoted for emphasis as there's almost no chatter about this silent announcement.

The USB port with hard drive sharing and 802.11n might be a decent upgrade from an Airport Express.

Apple - AirPort Extreme

I was going to post here moments before the forums went down:

-----
8-core bluray MacPro with a GMA 950 and no other GPU upgrade options. The graphics trend is no longer "begrudgingly embrace yesterdays GPU today" but now "actively take the worst".
-----

But I guess I didn't think hard enough because it turns out:

The trend is no longer "make cool computers and software" but now "make consumerish devices and ignore cool computers and software". Apple is today what Sony was in the 90s.

Take this post with small doses of cynicism.
To be determined later.

I think Apple should think about selling a GMA950-based Mac Pro, if you could add a graphics card later. Being only a casual gamer, I'd be tempted if it saved me major $$$.

How about just a mini with a graphics slot instead? I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

Perhaps, but what kind of GPU can you fit in there? A 1900XT (midrange GPU) would be like, bigger than the mini itself.

Who cares. Just make a slot. I'd throw the thing in a cardboard box if needed be. The mini is so small already, a regular GPU mounted somewhere on it wouldn't make it huge.

Evaluating my predictions...

Airport Media Station (iTV)
I'm surprised they didn't call it "Airport something."

"long-screen" iPod (turn sideways for wide-screen movies)
I guess I score on a technicality?

fascinating speech by Google CEO about Apple/Google partnership
Hold your applause!

Leopard, iLife'07, iWork'07
Quad-Core Mac Pro with Blu-Ray
updated Displays
updated iSight with an IR sensor for Front Row
another idiotic Photoshop bake-off
boring speech by MacBU rep
clever pep-talk by Adobe CEO about his wonderfully expensive Creative Suite 3

All no shows. Oh well.
