This is basically the set up I plan on having.
I have an iMac in the room that houses a collection of non DRM video files that I want to connect to a media player on the other side of the room via ethernet.
The computer itself gets it broadband connection from a POS 2Wire modem/router that if I tried to wirelessly network a media player to I am certain it would choke on the data traffic. Therefore I want to bypass that option altogether and network the player to my mac while allowing the mac to remain connected to the 2Wire router for internet.
So I am wondering what are my options for devices that can do that. Both generations of Apple TV are out of the question since I do not want to deal with converting the video files and the older gen that can be hacked is not able to be shut off when not in use. And a long mini-DVI cable is not really what I had in mind either since I also plan to use the media player device as a stand alone Netflix box
The Mac is running OS 10.6 Snow Leopard if that matters.
