We lose people every year on the Salt River who go tubing. They go tubing even though they don't know how to swim, and wearing a life jacket isn't required.

"Selfie sticks in Indonesia are known as "tongsis", short for "tongkat narsis", which means narcissist stick"

Not ridiculous, but very interesting and very true. I have seen many attractive girls constantly taking selfies with a phone camera and/or use of a selfie stick. This is especially true at airports.

This particular dam seems to eat people on a fairly regular basis. Got two last year.

They made the BBC because one of them is from Oxford.

Apparently his FB profile had him down as a bus driver from Swindon (a town about 25 miles from Oxford and home to...me).

It's the type of story the BBC love, a faint whiff of sexual deviation, Oxford University and an American angle.
How exciting.
Apart from the poor dead guy of course.

I heard a minor piece on it. But the news these days is just: Trump > Trump > Trump > Trump > small break for everything else > Trump > Trump > Trump > Trump

Guess he's never heard of Craigslist. For the price of the ticket he could have bought a 4-way.

He could take a train to Serbia and get 6 with what's left over.

Probably kill one if he wanted, but that's going to cost extra.

No officially he was deputy treasurer at one of the Oxford colleges. He had a sock puppet FB account as a bus driver from Swindon.
The OU job seems legit as the news have spoken to his work colleagues.

Somebody got fake newsed, and fake news from 7 years ago, before fake news even existed! Can't resist a story about our valiant, honorable soldiers protecting freedom and beating up a naughty, thieving, criminal black guy.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/milit...bbedmarine.asp

Yes it happened. No it wasn't someone named "Tyrone Jackson." The only blacker name I could think to make up would be "Jamal Blackman."

None of the news accounts, police reports, or interviews about this incident indicated that Attaway was injured, either while being subdued or afterwards. That bit was pure invention on the part of some person who inserted the additional paragraph into the news account, thereby transforming it into a “Don’t mess with the Marines” object lesson. A fake image representing a newspaper article was later created for this item, one which added the (apocryphal) statement that the fleeing suspect sustained multiple injuries “when he slipped and fell off the curb”:

Snopes is crap, they don't even supply corroborating links, just unlinked titles (presumably) of the original story. "Because we say so" isn't enough.

However, I do appreciate that you're willing to go out of your way to vet a meme, that's commitment!

Well, it didn't even cross my mind that the assailant was black, so... good job?

New details from the global, three-way murder.

Victim was the boyfriend of the microbiologist.

Microbiologist and Oxford guy planned to kill him for months, maybe another person if they could get them to show up.

Then the alleged plan was for microbiologist and Oxford guy to murder each other. The microbiologist was going to knife Oxford, Oxford was going to shoot the microbiologist.

You know, I never graduated college, but I do believe that plan has a flaw.

At least 11 dogs in Mumbai, India were found with a new color. Aliens were ruled out after residents complained. A local detergent manufacturer has been shut down by authorities for dumping untreated dye into a river the dogs swim in. The dye is water-soluble and doesn't seem to be harming the dogs.

Also weird (and by weird I mean horrific).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-41021223

It's the age old story. Man builds own submarine, invites journalist on board to write about it, scuppers own sub in effort to cover up murder of journalist, who's headless body washes up on shore the next week.

I mean why? It's not like he was ever going to get away with it.

A much better plan would be for Oxford to knife microbiologist and then microbiologist gives Oxford the Black Plague.

I haven't heard yet that they've changed his charge to murder. Apparently her torso had stab wounds designed to vent gas buildup due to decomposition and metal tied to it to weigh it down. But he wasn't trying to hide anything, obviously. What a dick.
