Wow, it would have been just as easy to hit the back button and not post that as it was to hit submit . . .

Exactly. Until they can reduce the performance problems behind the cocoa text editing libraries, there is no reason to port BBEdit to cocoa. Even then, what would they get out of it? Spellcheck? They already have emacs bindings in place. I don't know what else you'd get from cocoa.

It would be nice if BBEdit supported the control-A and control-E shortcuts that are supported in Cocoa text fields.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Of course, since they'd probably want to write their own text field anyway (since it's the central part of their application) if they ported it, it would be just as easy to add in now.

BBEdit is one of the best Carbon applications out there. A Cocoa port would get it nothing that it doesn't have already. Your Cocoa-zealotry, therefore, is pointless.
You are in Soviet Russia. It is dark. Grue is likely to be eaten by YOU!

As we've seen from certain other oft-banned members, all Cocoa zealotry is pointless

Idiots that have no clue about software development should steer well clear of making any statement about application frameworks.

Pity Apple sometimes fuels the FUD itself, though.
