Hi thought some of you might be interested in this.

I had been plagued by this wake from sleep bug with my Ti 550 (512, OS
X.2.3) for months. I was also getting similar hangs while the computer was
awake which lately seemed to be associated with typing or touching the
computer. My machine was basically crippled (couldn't use sleep at all as
it would almost always hang going to sleep or waking up). Also had flaky
trackpad behaviour (esp. in the beginning). Lately the only way to
make the machine usable was to never use sleep and to frequently disconnect all
power (cable and battery) before booting up.

Anyway, I noticed this week that there was a particular spot on my machine
(left side of the space bar/cmd key area) that, when pressed, would trigger
a hang. When I investigated I found a small orange ribbon cable trapped
under the frame directly underneath this area that was getting abraded and
shorting out.

Long story short (so to speak), after I fixed it (pulled it out from under the
frame and placed some tape to insulate the damaged section), no more unstable
behaviour, no wake from sleep bug.

Apple has suggested the power management unit as being involved in this bug but
I'm wondering if people ought to be looking for current leaks or shorts to
explain the flaky behaviour of some G4 PBs.

Addendum: I have some illustrative pictures of the cable etc. but no way to

hmmm..... cool, at least if later on down the road I have problems with sleep/wake on my Powerbook, I'll know where to look to see if it's the same problem as yours.

I would suggest you look now b/c if the frame screw is loose, the cable will get trapped for sure (there is no play in the cable at all, in fact it prefers to slide to the left, right underneath the frame).

I figure that mine must have been under there for months and I only start to have problems once the insulation began to get eroded.

I was also very annoyed that my computer would not be connected to my wireless network after closing the lid and putting the computer to sleep. My problem was that under my system prefs:network:airport settings, I had the computer searching for the best network to join....and recently my neighbors (i live in a highrise) just got wireless that was in range!! once i switched the airport prefs to join my network ONLY, everything worked after waking from sleep!! i hope this helps others with similar problems!!

This would be a different wake from sleep bug.

The issue in question here is a bug that makes your comupter crash on waking which is also related to trackpad jerkiness/non-responsiveness and random crashes.

If you look at the forum here and on the Apple discussion boards you will find there are a lot of G4PB users who have been plaged with this problem (something that Apple has rather studiously ignored).

My point (above) is that people affected by this should look carefully at the ribbon cable I describe or consider other possible sources of current leaks or short as the culprit.

Interesting...

I was experience frequent trackpad and screen brightness key outages after waking from sleep on battery power when I first got my Ti Ghz Combo. I could use the keyboard to restart, but the trackpad was not responsive (plugging in a mouse would get pointer to work just fine). It was a really annoying bug that happened very frequently, but only when on battery power.

For the past three months or so, I have not experienced any crashes, freezes, or screen brightness key problems (in fact, my Ti has never crashed hardcore). I assumed that the problem was resolved by system updates (10.2.3-4). Perhaps a wire wiggled back into place instead!?

Finally got around to uploading a pic of the problem area.

The cable and screw are located just under the cmd key and the left side of the space bar. This is obviously the "after" picture. Before this the screw had come loose and teh cable had slid under the frame where it was getting abraded from regular keyboard use.
