Yea, the combination of those fonts reminds me of crappy 90s design.

(and I thought this thread was going to be about the apple store down)

For a company that cares so much about design the mobile me logo the cloud and the icons are really sucky. It looks like fisher price.net. We are adults for gods sake!

I'm willing to bet the "me" is the same font as "hello."

I thought adults could look past a logo and judge a service based on what it offers.

You clearly haven't met adults. They like pretty things. Note the company to which this forum is dedicated.

Heh heh, if I ever buy a Mac only because it's pretty. then take my Macs away and give me a DOS-based 286.

I like it, a bit Microsoftish, but has it occurred that they did that for a reason?

If that mimicked Microsoft for a reason, then that person should be fired. They've been marketing themselves as a company thats different (and better) then Microsoft. Trying to make it look more MS like would be a mistakes.

Besides, I think the answer is already in the post. They used the same font used for the macintosh's hello screen screen shot

This is a product designed to work with Windows as well as the Mac, any good designer would have taken that into account.

That's why they put so much effort into making sure iTunes, Safari and Software Update are such good citizens on Windows, right?

Sorry, I've not seen any other windows product from apple (or any other company for that matter) that tries to mimic Microsoft in its marketing look and feel. I may not be marketing guru, but I'm pretty sure that the apple marketing people did not want to associate mobile me to windows me - one of the least successful, bug filled OS' that MS has ever released.

Yeah, I admit that I had the same thought when I first heard "MobileMe," but I'm not getting the same kind of vibe as WIndows Me. I'm not worried about it.

These products originally branded and existed for Macs and were ported to PC's, they are pitching Mobile me as a new multi platform product, designed from the ground up to work with Windows as well as Macs.

Hence the branding.

To clarify... The "mobileme" thing sounded rather un-Apple to me, like some sort of government-sponsored logo. But when it was pointed out that it was just like WindowsMe, it suddenly all made sense.

I suspect if any of the higher ups had noticed it, Apple would have dropped it like a hot potato.

I dunno, I kind of like it. Not the "mobile" part but the "me" part. Me.com is going to be an easy site to type, and I bet I'll use it about 10 times a day from work - provided they don't ban it as being non-work related (which it is).

Well, it's not as if "mac.com" would be hard to type. However "me.com" is better branding, which I suspect was the ultimate reason for the decision.

OTOH, while I think "me.com" is better, I'm not so enamoured with "mobileme".

The apple "me" is almost certainly hand drawn. With only two letters and being such an important part of the brand they'd be mad not to. However it is similar to this

which is called ptscript lightning
