Just wondering if anyone else has their "Sleep" greyed out under the Apple menu... I can't make OS X go to sleep!

I do.

PowerMac g4/400 AGP with OrangeMicro SCSI card and ATI Xlclaim VR 128.

Sleep worked perfectly in 4k73. even went to deep sleep despite my PCI cards.

now its greyed out.

what's your config?

I have doubt about transfering the power management from 4k73 to GM. anyone think that's safe?

I have a G4 400 AGP 512 mb ram with a clean install of 9.1 and OS X on a stock drive.

I was able to sleep in the beta too!

do you have any PCI cards installed?

I'm trying to figure out what the problem is. Apparently its the PCI cards but that makes no sense considering it worked up until a few weeks ago.

G4 450 PCI. Sleep not greyed out but the computer won't wake up.

It will depart at 20 minutes to 5.

Actually yes - two 2930's. Also my Micro-Connectors keyboard sometimes won't work, along with my optical mouse, so I have to re-plug those in . My ATI is stock 16mb AGP...

I know that power managment can't control the 2930s - it says so under the Apple System Profiler under OS 9.1. So I imagine this is only a bug on machines with PCI cards in use.

Check Out OSX Help: Type in Sleep and click Ask button. Select "News About Hardware Compatibility", then select "I Can't Put My Computer To Sleep"

Here it says if you have a PCI card installed Sleep is unavailable.

Not so good, although I have had similar problems with OS9 and my second ATI Vid card and sleep.

Hope this helps,
m

Slightly off-topic, but I was wondering Applenut if you have been able to use your Xclaim VR 128 card with Mac OS X? Mine does not seem to work. I have had to revert to the original G4/400 (AGP) OEM ATI card.

I don't have any problems with sleep on my iBook. i did notice that there was a slightly greater drain on my battery (compared to OS 9) while my Book slept over night, but it wasn't a dramatic drain like others have reported. My iBook goes to sleep and wakes up right away.

To move very slightly off topic, when I first read the subject of this topic, I had a totally different reaction. When Jobs announced 24th would see the shipment of GM, I had trouble sleeping: I was reading these forums all night! And now that I have beautiful OS X running, I still have sleep problems, between exploring the OS and reading MacNN. Little sleep in sight for me!
